Cloud Imperium Games showcased the current build of Squadron 42 earlier this week, and offered a 2026 release window.
The live demo was fairly impressive visually and it featured enough Hollywood stars to make any big ensemble production proud twice over, but it was also quite unstable, leading the developers to record an entirely new playthrough for Youtube purposes, as the original, actual live demo wasn’t exactly watchable for a less enthusiastic audience than the people who tune into CitizenCon. While I’m undeniably excited by the potential this title might have, it’s very concerning to see what was billed as feature complete, and in the polish stage last year in such a rough shape (and aiming for a relatively far away launch window). Hopefully my concerns are unwarranted and the final product is worthy of the project’s massive budget and decade plus time investment.
