However, ‘balance’ isn’t exactly the word I and many others would use to describe the latest patch notes, which continue to drop the ball that was already deep in the ground as far back as launch day.
Venom, the king of stalling and diving, has seen yet another buff, this time to his survivability. Star-Lord, who could already get his ultimate incredibly quickly, has had his ult cost reduced. Hela and Phoenix’s precision damage is as oppressive as ever. Oh, and Adam Warlock can fly, which is cool but makes for another pesky flying hero.
Then there’s the elephant in the room: healing. Support heroes like Invisible Woman, Luna Snow, and especially Gambit, ever since his introduction in Season 5, have been the ire of the community. Simply put, healing is incredibly strong, leading to a triple support meta even in high-ranked play and competitions.
Elsa Bloodstone: The Hunter Heiress | Character Reveal | Marvel Rivals – YouTube
While Loki’s been repeatedly nerfed, the triple support meta is more than intact, and Gambit has miraculously evaded any nerfs, despite being banned in almost every creator tournament match of late. I’m genuinely baffled Gambit isn’t on the chopping block.
This is all to say that Marvel Rivals hasn’t had the best track record for buffing and nerfing the right heroes, often doing the complete opposite of what you’d expect. Contrasted with Overwatch’s surging success, the Marvel Rivals community feels like it’s at a breaking point. ‘Dyingwords121’ over on Reddit says, “Today’s patch notes have made me lose all hope”, and I’ve already seen multiple people calling for Zhiyong, Marvel Rivals’ lead combat designer, to step down.
The lack of meaningful meta shifts and hero balance in favour of an ever-growing roster has repeatedly fanned the flames. With the pace of new releases not looking to slow down any time soon, I reckon it’s time for a season entirely focused on improving the fundamentals.

SOLIDWORKS 2026 System Requirements: The Architecture of Performance
In high-fidelity CAD environments, performance is not a monolithic metric but a multi-variable optimization problem. For SOLIDWORKS, the primary computational bottleneck shifts dynamically based on the specific workflow: rebuilds are frequency-bound (single-core), simulations are core-density sensitive (multi-core scaling), and visual fidelity is driver-dependent (ISV certification).
This analysis provides a data-driven framework for selecting 2026-grade hardware to eliminate these bottlenecks, categorized by specific engineering personas.
CPU: Frequency vs. Parallelization
SOLIDWORKS remains a predominantly single-threaded application for parametric modeling. Every feature in a Design Tree is calculated sequentially; therefore, Instructions Per Clock (IPC) and Effective Frequency are the most critical variables for “snappiness.”
The Simulation/Rendering Exception:
While modeling doesn’t scale with cores, SOLIDWORKS Simulation (FEA/CFD) and Visualize (Rendering) utilize multithreading. However, empirical data shows a “point of diminishing returns” for FEA solvers around 12–16 physical cores due to inter-core communication overhead.
Primary Recommendation (Modeling/General): Intel Core Ultra 9 285K or AMD Ryzen 9 9950X. Both offer boost clocks exceeding 5.7 GHz.
Secondary Recommendation (Simulation Heavy): AMD Threadripper PRO 9975WX. This provides the necessary memory bandwidth (8-channel) for massive stiffness matrices in complex FEA.

GPU: The Logic of ISV Certification
Unlike gaming, SOLIDWORKS relies on the OpenGL API and requires specific hardware features like Order Independent Transparency (OIT). While consumer GeForce cards possess raw power, they lack the certified drivers necessary for RealView Graphics and stability in large assemblies. GeForce cards are NOT recommended for Solidworks applications.
NVIDIA Blackwell (2026 Standard):
The transition to the Blackwell architecture (RTX 50-series Pro) has introduced significant improvements in “Neural Rendering” for SOLIDWORKS Visualize.
Entry/Mid-tier: NVIDIA RTX 2000 Blackwell. Sufficient for assemblies up to 1,000 components.
Professional: NVIDIA RTX Pro 4000 Blackwell. The sweet spot for large assemblies (5,000+ parts) and high-resolution displays.
Elite/Visual: NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell. Necessary only for photorealistic 4K rendering or massive architectural plant layouts.
RAM and Storage: Latency and Throughput
RAM Capacity: 32GB is the 2026 minimum. For assemblies exceeding 5,000 unique components, 64GB is required to prevent the system from “swapping” to the SSD, which introduces a 10x-100x latency penalty.
Storage: SOLIDWORKS generates massive temporary “scratch” files during simulation. A Gen5 NVMe SSD (e.g., Crucial T705 or Samsung 9100) is recommended for the active working directory to minimize File Open/Save/Rebuild wait times.
Comparative Benchmarks: SOLIDWORKS 2026 Workloads
The following data represents the SOLIDWORKS Performance Test scores (Lower time is better).

Lower is better. Measured on a standard 500-feature complex part.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is rolling out its first update for 2026 on February 11—Puppy Love—which will add Lady and Tramp, alongside an entirely new realm, to the game. Besides the characters and the fact we’ll have a new area to explore, we know very little about its content. Even the information about the unlock quests for both characters is pretty scarce, but there are a few things we know which will make preparing for the update that little bit easier.
How to prepare for the Puppy Love update in Disney Dreamlight Valley
As is the case with all of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s free updates, there’s nothing you need to do. Since this is the first time Lady and the Tramp have appeared in the game, there are no existing friendships you need to work on to unlock them. Instead, your focus should be on unlocking an entirely new realm. Here are a few things you can do to prepare if you want to get a head start when it drops.
Save up your Dreamlight to unlock a new realm in the Dream Castle
The Puppy Love update will add an entirely new realm to the Dream Castle for us to unlock, so it’s best to start saving up your Dreamlight as soon as you can as these realms are by no means cheap. I’m expecting the realm to cost us about 15,000 Dreamlight, much like the realms we’ve unlocked in recent updates like the Inside Out realm, but this hasn’t been confirmed.
The best way to quickly farm Dreamlight is by completing Dreamlight Duties, but if you want an extra boost, then mining, digging, and fishing will sometimes give you Dream Shards which can be used to craft 100 Dreamlight at a time. This is always the longest part of the process, but at least it’s one you can work on while completing other tasks, as these duties usually involve some sort of farming or cooking which could also be useful ways to prepare for this update.
Gather ingredients like tomatoes and wheat
Although we don’t know the ins and outs of what the quests will offer in this update, we already know we’ll have to make dinner for both Lady and Tramp. In the film, the pair share a plate of spaghetti, so it’s safe to assume we might need ingredients like tomato and wheat if we are expected to cook this meal ourselves. Dreamlight Valley loves to add a cooking element to its unlock quests, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a bit more to it or a rogue ingredient to collect within the new realm.
To save yourself from having to wait around for crops to grow, planting a variety each time you log in will be a real timesaver. Even if you don’t need them for the unlock quests for Lady and Tramp, you never know when they’ll come in handy later down the line. Especially if you’re planning on inviting the pair to live in the valley and immediately working on their friendship quests. You don’t want a roadblock like growth time to stunt your progress!
Level up your friendship with your animal companions
With the two characters you’ll unlock in this update being animals, it makes sense to dedicate some time to increasing your friendship with your animal companions. You can do this by spending time with them and petting, so it’s something you can easily work away on while you do other things. We haven’t been given any indication as to whether or not our animal companions will be involved in the unlock quests, so it’s just a gut feeling. But, there’s no harm in getting all the animals you possibly can on your side.

You’ve just completed one of Unity’s black box assassination missions, an infiltration with multiple diversions and entrances to find and exploit. The next mission has you meet up with Elise, your templar girlfriend, on the streets of revolutionary Paris. She’s being pursued by a mob of templar thugs—her faction aren’t fans of her or you at this point in the story—and you get roped into the chase. Literally. Her escape route leads to a demonstration of a hot-air balloon, the same model the Montgolfier brothers used just nine years previous in the first manned balloon flight. Of course, she jumps in. It’s your job to cut the ropes while fighting off the first wave of pursuers.
It’s a perfect setup for the kind of over-the-top pseudo-historical hijinks the Assassin’s Creed games specialize in. This is Ezio piloting Leonardo da Vinci’s prototype tank, or Lydia Frye shooting down biplanes over London with an experimental anti-aircraft gun. The Montgolfier springs into the air with Elise in it, but not you. You have to parkour after it while Elise leans out to shoot snipers. When the Montgolfier gets tangled on a rooftop you cut it loose, with just enough time for a dramatic leap into the basket and a romantic moment as the wind whisks you far away from the chaos of Paris in 1792.
For a few moments, Assassin’s Creed Unity is perfect. It’ll come crashing back down to Earth eventually, but you’ve probably already heard about that.
The framerate. The clipping. The instability. The floating NPCs. The texture load-in delay, and the infamous screenshot of a character’s teeth and eyeballs appearing before the rest of their face. The NPCs who interrupt cutscenes. The haycarts you could get stuck in. The one sidequest that can’t be finished unless you quit out then go back in. The hassle connecting and staying connected for co-op. The extra dose of problems if you ran it on AMD hardware.
When it launched, Unity was in an absolute state. But where more recent games with troubled releases have been given the grace of critical reconsideration after patching, Unity remained a punchline even after Ubisoft put in the effort to repair it and then gave away the DLC for free.
In my last playthrough I saw a few NPCs hover off the ground, it’s still a crapshoot whether you can hand in the sidequest to collect all the pieces of the guillotine, and flickering white lines appear if you use TXAA, but otherwise it runs well—better than most of the open world games I’ve played recently. They even patched out the requirement to engage with a mobile app so you can open the blue treasure chests, which was an infuriating bit of “second screen experience” madness at the time.
Play it today, and Assassin’s Creed Unity is a reminder of what the series can be when it focuses on a single city. You can tidily wrap up Unity and its expansion Dead Kings in 40 hours without rushing. By contrast, you’ll need that much time for just Valhalla’s DLC, and nearly 100 more hours for the actual game.

Unity is about Paris—with brief excursions to Franciade and Versailles—and that means it can do Paris justice. The city looks like a painting by Nicolas-Jean-Baptiste Raguenet, all blue roof tiles and boats on the Seine, and when you freeclimb down to street level (downwards parkour being a Unity innovation) then you realize, merde, that’s a lot of people.
Unity’s crowds are something you don’t see in other videogames. There are mobs of people burning effigies and waving flags or pikes with heads on them, dancing, drinking, proffering leaflets, stretching their arms for a garment-fitting outside the boutique, propositioning sex workers, arguing about politics, and singing La Marseillaise everywhere you go.
Thanks to Casablanca I can’t hear La Marseillaise without having an emotional reaction. I don’t care that some of Unity’s early missions take place in 1791 and La Marseillaise was written in 1792, any time I’m walking the streets of Paris and I hear it start up I feel a wild swell of national pride for a country I have no relation to, and love for a city I spent a nice afternoon in once. Le jour de gloire est arrivé!
If you get sick of the revolution, you can jump in a rift and travel to a different time period. I’m pretty sure the the rifts exist as an excuse to let you climb the Eiffel Tower, which was built to mark the 100-year anniversary of the revolution and would be an anachronism too far even for Ubisoft, but they’re also a replacement for the modern-day stuff the Assassin’s Creed series outgrew long before Ubisoft finally ditched it.
Instead of bouncing out of the simulation to spend time with that boring Desmond dude, you bounce around inside the simulation to a jumbled and glitchy Belle Epoque version of Paris with the Statue of Liberty in it, and of course you ascend that too. Which is neat, though nothing beats hopping to occupied Vichy France in the 1940s to parkour up the Eiffel Tower while being shot at by German planes.
Between the spectacle setpieces and the Paris sandbox are actual stealth missions. Unity was the first Assassin’s Creed game to have a crouch button, which is the central tenet of my argument that it’s the first actual stealth game in the series. It’s also the one that added separate controls for freerunning up and down, and one of the few that trusted you with a wealth of tools quickly accessible on the number keys (like Black Flag), making truly wild feats of skill possible.
[AC Unity] Hoarders | Full Sync Stealth Reaper – YouTube
It also made combat harder, with the automatic melee counter swapped for a parry that you need to follow up with a riposte yourself, and bullets that can drop you in no time flat. You feel fragile in a way that’s valuable in a real stealth game, that makes you actually want to engage with semi-obscure mechanics like using berserk blades to immobilize guards just long enough to get a stealth kill in—useful if you run out of phantom blades—or ducking just to bring up enemies on the minimap, or throwing smoke bombs at enemies instead of yourself then using eagle vision to pick them out of the cloud for a projectile kill.
Assassin’s Creed Unity released in 2014, and received a trial by social media like Mass Effect 3 had two years before, which outlasted any actual impressions of the game. The complaints about its shonkiness and lack of playable women in co-op were valid, but play it today and it holds up better than a lot of other Assassin’s Creed games do. Still, the crowd bayed for blood and off came its head—leaving just the teeth and eyeballs.

Deadline reports that HBO is working on a Baldur’s Gate TV show that will continue the story of Baldur’s Gate 3, picking up where the acclaimed Larian RPG ends, though likely with a new party of adventurers taking center stage.
In charge of the show is Craig Mazin, co-creator of HBO’s The Last of Us show, who says he’s played “nearly 1,000 hours” of Baldur’s Gate 3.
“I am a devoted fan of D&D and the brilliant way that Swen Vincke and his gifted team adapted it,” says Mazin. Deadline also reports that the writer and producer has been playing D&D weekly for the past 15 years.
Aside from The Last of Us, Mazin is known for HBO’s Chernobyl miniseries, as well as a handful of comedy films, including a couple of the Scary Movie parodies and the second two Hangover movies.
According to Deadline, the Baldur’s Gate show will feature new and existing characters and draw its world primarily from Baldur’s Gate 3. The original BioWare RPGs are “not official source material,” the site says, but the show can use material from D&D’s Forgotten Realms setting in general.
It sounds like the plan is to establish a new party of adventurers and then pepper in appearances from Baldur’s Gate 3 characters. Per Deadline, the show is expected to follow low level characters as they gradually become more powerful, while the already-powerful cast of Baldur’s Gate 3 meddles, “helping or hindering the new heroes.”
The publication also states that Mazin intends to reach out to Baldur’s Gate 3 voice actors for possible involvement. As for Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian, it has moved on from D&D, and is currently working on a new RPG in its own Divinity series. The Baldur’s Gate 3 characters are in the hands of D&D owner Wizards of the Coast.

Stardew Valley is basically the videogame equivalent of Star Wars at this point—even if you’ve never seen a single movie, you probably still know who Darth Vader is. You’d think being an all-encompassing phenomenon would mean that every stone had been turned and every secret discovered.
Well, nope. As Barone tells IGN in a recent interview celebrating the farming sim’s 10-year anniversary, mysteries still lie dormant in Pelican Town. “There’s still a secret that no one has ever found. I don’t think they ever will,” he said. How very tantalising.
“Maybe I’ll reveal it someday,” Barone continued. “But the problem with the secret is that it’s … it’s basically a secret message that’s in the game and it reveals something that actually isn’t even true anymore.”
Of course Barone is too darn tight-lipped and has too much self-control to spill what it is. “It was revealing a thing about– Do I want to reveal it or not? Well, that’s all I’ll say. It was a secret message that was basically announcing something that I actually shifted gears and that thing wasn’t even true anymore, but it’s still in the game. I just don’t know if anyone will ever discover it because it’s so obscure.”
Dang. So close to spilling the beans, and yet. As to how nobody’s managed to discover it even with years of datamining and fans picking out even the tiniest of details from their thousands of hours playing, Barone says it’s because it’s a secret that can’t be uncovered through sifting through the game’s code.
“There’s certain ways to hide messages that can’t really be datamined,” he said. “If you hide something in the code, it’s going to all be found because people decompile the code and look at everything. If you, say, hide it in the art or something—if it’s a secret message that’s hidden in the artwork somehow—then people can’t really discover that as easily. They have to see it.”
Is this going to inspire an influx of players combing through every texture in the game to try and figure out just what the hell Barone is talking about? Maybe. It certainly won’t be me, but I’m sure there are some truly dedicated people out there willing to find out exactly what the message said. “I feel like no one will ever find it,” Barone teases. “But I hope someone does. It’d be interesting.”
