NVIDIA Offers Self-Paced Career Development in AI and Data Science

AI has seen unprecedented growth — spurring the need for new training and education resources for students and industry professionals.

NVIDIA’s latest on-demand webinar, Essential Training and Tips to Accelerate Your Career in AI, featured a panel discussion with industry experts on fostering career growth and learning in AI and other advanced technologies.

Over 1,800 attendees gained insights on how to kick-start their careers and use NVIDIA’s technologies and resources to accelerate their professional development.

Opportunities in AI

AI’s impact is touching nearly every industry, presenting new career opportunities for professionals of all backgrounds.

Lauren Silveira, a university recruiting program manager at NVIDIA, challenged attendees to take their unique education and experience and apply it in the AI field.

“You don’t have to work directly in AI to impact the industry,” said Silveira. “I knew I wouldn’t be a doctor or engineer — that wasn’t in my career path — but I could create opportunities for those that wanted to pursue those dreams.”

Kevin McFall, a principal instructor for the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute, offered some advice for those looking to navigate a career in AI and advanced technologies but finding themselves overwhelmed or unsure of where to start.

“Don’t try to do it all by yourself,” he said. “Don’t get focused on building everything from scratch — the best skill that you can have is being able to take pieces of code or inspiration from different resources and plug them together to make a whole.”

A main takeaway from the panelists was that students and industry professionals can significantly enhance their capabilities by leveraging tools and resources in addition to their networks.

Every individual can access a variety of free software development kits, community resources and specialized courses in areas like robotics, CUDA and OpenUSD through the NVIDIA Developer Program. Additionally, they can kick off projects with the CUDA code sample library and explore specialized guides such as “A Simple Guide to Deploying Generative AI With NVIDIA NIM”.

Spinning a Network

Staying up to date on the rapidly expanding technology industry involves more than just keeping up with the latest education and certifications.

Sabrina Koumoin, a senior software engineer at NVIDIA, spoke on the importance of networking. She believes people can find like-minded peers and mentors to gain inspiration from by sharing their personal learning journeys or projects on social platforms like LinkedIn.

A self-taught coder, Koumoin also advocates for active engagement and education accessibility. Outside of work, she hosted multiple coding bootcamps for people looking to break into tech.

“It’s a way to show that learning technical skills can be engaging, not intimidating,” she said.

David Ajoku, founder and CEO at Demystifyd and Aware.ai, also emphasized the importance of using LinkedIn to build connections, demonstrate key accomplishments and show passion.

He outlined a three-step strategy to enhance your LinkedIn presence, designed to help you stand out, gain deeper insights into your preferred companies and boldly share your aspirations and interests:

  1. Think about a company you’d like to work for and what draws you to it.
  2. Research thoroughly, focusing on its main activities, mission and goals.
  3. Be bold — create a series of posts informing your network about your career journey and what advancements interest you in the chosen company.

One attendee asked about how AI might evolve over the next decade and what skills professionals should focus on to stay relevant. Louis Stewart, head of strategic initiatives at NVIDIA, replied that crafting a personal narrative and growth journey is just as important as ensuring certifications and skills are up to date.

“Be intentional and purposeful — have an end in mind,” he said. “That’s how you connect with future potential companies and people — it’s a skill you have to develop to stay ahead.”

Deep Dive Into Learning

NVIDIA offers a variety of programs and resources to equip the next generation of AI professionals with the skills and training needed to excel in a career in AI.

NVIDIA’s AI Learning Essentials is designed to give individuals the knowledge, skills and certifications they need to be prepared for the workforce and the fast moving field of AI. It includes free access to self-paced introductory courses and webinars on topics such as generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and CUDA.

The NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI) provides a diverse range of resources, including learning materials, self-paced and live trainings, and educator programs spanning AI, accelerated computing and data science, graphics simulation and more. They also offer technical workshops for students currently enrolled in universities.

Marvel vs. Capcom is Training For a Potential Revival

Back in the day, the Marvel vs. Capcom games used to be all the rage, and a significant feather in the cap of the two franchises. Thre hasn’t been a new entry since Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite back in 2017, and that seemed to be the end of the fighting series’ story. But with a remastered collection of the earlier games due relatively soon, it may help herald a larger return for the legendary franchise.

Talking to Dexerto, Capcom producer Shuhei Mastumoto acknowledged the studio has “big dreams,” which includes reviving dormant fighting franchises like Marvel vs. and leading development on another crossover game with SNK. But it all depends on audience reponse to these remaster bundles. “We love these games. We hope that you do too,” he said, “In the future, if people get to familiarize themselves with these series, then there may be future opportunities to make bigger games.” While not promising anything, he stressed that Capcom and Marvel both want to bring back MvC, but they want to reintroduce the series first.

“What we can do now is at least reintroduce these past legacy games to a new audience, to people who may not have the opportunity to play it,” he explained. “We can show you that hey, these series exist. […] There’s a lot we’re looking forward to and big dreams, and now it’s a matter of timing and seeing what we can do one step at a time.” The collection features Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and came to life thanks to the vibrant fighting game community and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 specifically. Matsumoto had wanted a re-release for “years and years,” and now felt like the right time for it.

A Marvel vs. Capcom comeback almost feels like a sure thing: fighting game fans appear to be aware of how significant this collection is, both for the series and the larger FGC community. Not to mention, Capcom as a developer has had a really good streak of releases the past few years between key series like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter. (Even last year’s remasters of old Mega Man games were solid performers.) On Marvel’s side of things, no doubt it wants a big multiplayer game to tout as a success alongside its hot streak of successful (and expanding) single-player titles. And if the remasters do fail? Well, there’s always a potential guest spot (or four) in Street Fighter 6.

The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection hits Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC later this year.

Orcs Must Die’s next entry will bring a roguelite twist next year

The Orcs Must Die series is getting another entry next year with Orcs Must Die Deathtrap, which will be the fifth game in the series from developer and publisher Robot Entertainment. The new release will have players, alone or as a team of up to four, battle oncoming waves of enemies in third-person action gameplay. This time, players will “evolve through rogue-lite progression” as they defeat hordes of orcs.

The reveal trailer showed off four different characters: An elf with a crossbow, a wand-wielding sorceress, a lady with a gun, and a large angry bear. “Each hero is tailored to different play styles and can operate independently or work together with complementing heroes, ensuring versatile and mighty orc-smashing,” said Robot Entertainment.

iOS 18 Beta: Safari’s Find on Page Search Function Has a New Home

Apple released the first public beta for iOS 18 on Monday, a little more than a month after the tech giant announced the software at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Apple said the update would bring many new features to your iPhone, including the ability to lock and hide certain apps. The update also places Safari’s Find on Page search function in a new, easy-to-find spot, so you don’t accidentally send a web page to a friend or family member.

CNET Tips_Tech CNET Tips_Tech

Before iOS 18, if you wanted to use Find on Page to search for a word in your iPhone’s Safari app, you had to tap the Share button — the box with the arrow coming out of it — in the bottom menu of a web page, and then tap Find on Page. But you ran the risk of accidentally sending a web page to someone else, to another app or even posting it on social media. With iOS 18, Find on Page can be found in a new place far from the Share button, so you don’t make that — potentially embarrassing — mistake.

Read more: Everything to Know About iOS 18’s Public Beta

However, iOS 18 is still in beta, and we recommend downloading a beta only on a device other than your primary iPhone. Because this isn’t the final version of iOS 18, the update might be buggy and battery life may be short, so it’s best to keep those troubles on a secondary device.

Note that the beta is not the final version of iOS 18, so more features could hit your iPhone when iOS 18 is released. Apple said iOS 18 would be released to the public this fall, but there’s no definitive date yet.

Here’s how to locate Find on Page in iOS 18 on Safari.

Where to locate Find on Page

Find on Page function in Safari Find on Page function in Safari

Find on Page can now be found in a new location in iOS 18.

Apple/Screenshot by CNET

1. Open Safari.
2. Go to a web page.
3. Tap the Reader icon — it looks like a rectangle with two dashes under it on the left side of the address bar.
4. Tap the icon that looks like a page with a magnifying glass in the new menu.

Find on Page works the same as it did in previous iOS versions. Start typing in the keyboard across the bottom of your screen, and Safari will highlight all instances of what you’re searching for. To the right of your search bar — just above your keyboard — there are up and down arrows you can tap to go to the next instance of the word you’re searching for.

You can also tap the magnifying glass to the left of the search bar to open a menu. This menu has two options: Whole Words and Match Case. Whole Words is the default search, but you can use Match Case if you’re searching for something like the surname King — like a famous horror author. That way, your search doesn’t highlight words like “making” or “taking.”

Once you’re finished, you can tap Done next to the search bar to close the search bar and keyboard.

For more on iOS 18, here’s my hands-on experience with the first public beta, how to get rid of your flashlight from your lock screen and how to customize your home screen.
