Capcom had a busy day at The Game Awards, and one of their most interesting reveals (at least for someone like me) was that Onimusha is in fact back from slumber, with a new game titled Onimusha: Way of the Sword tentatively scheduled for a 2026 launch window on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
According to Capcom the new title will take place in Kyoto during the early Edo period. Obviously even in a time of relative peace evil spirits can’t rest, so the Genma have infested the city, and a hero who wields the Oni Gauntlet must emerge to deal with the demonic threat.
Compared to other trailers that were showcased for games that are relatively far away, this one features actual gameplay scenes, so I’m optimistic Capcom will be able to hit their release window. Hopefully the return of Onimusha proves a success and the publisher finally remembers that Dino Crisis is also a thing people would like to go back to…
