Pebble Time 2 to Feature Stainless Steel Build, Color E-Paper Display, and 30-Day Battery Life

Eric Migicovsky, creator of the original Pebble smartwatch, has finally revealed the redesigned Pebble Time 2. Though Migicovsky referred to the new smartwatches as the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 back in March, he now says his new company, Core Devices, has regained the Pebble trademark. The latest models will thus be called the Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2.

The Pebble Time 2 will come in four colors, with the final choices still to be determined. Core Devices says Pebble buyers will get a chance to vote on their preferred options before launch. Changes in the industrial design are matched by upgrades in hardware. The watch is to have a multicolor RGB LED backlight, two microphones, a built-in compass, and a screw-mounted back cover. The watch’s front and back are stainless steel, with matching buttons.

Most earlier-announced specifications will stay the same. The Pebble Time 2 is to have a 1.5-inch 64-color e-paper touch display protected by a flat hardened glass lens, a quick-release 22mm strap, a 30-day maximum battery life, a heart rate monitor, step and sleep tracking, a speaker, a vibration motor, and a waterproof rating that is yet to be announced. The watch will sync with a smartphone using Bluetooth for notifications, music controls, and even internet connectivity, as reported by TechCrunch.

Customers who preordered the Core 2 Duo can upgrade to the Pebble Time 2 through an upcoming survey email, but should not cancel their original order to keep their place in line. The Pebble Time 2 is now available for preorder at $225.
