How to Get Placed in a Remote Job

Work from home staffing agencies make it easier to find remote work. In fact, staffing agencies are regularly used by both small and large companies to help fill vacancies with great talent (like you).

But, are staffing agencies really remote-friendly? Yes, for the most part.

Keep reading to learn more about 21 work from home staffing agencies. One just may be your ticket to a new remote role.

What is a Work from Home Staffing Agency?

First, let’s go over what a staffing agency is. Staffing agencies are the middleman between employers and job seekers. They are also called recruitment, search, or staffing firms.

For example, let’s say Company PDQ Inc. regularly has wfh jobs. Currently, it needs to hire an online bookkeeper. However, PDQ does not want to go through the recruiting process on its own. After all, hiring is costly and time consuming. In fact, it averages out to about $4,129 and 42 days to fill a single position, according to ADP.

work from home staffing agencies connect companies and talent

So, PDQ decides to work with a staffing agency instead. Now the staffing agency sets out to find candidates to fill the bookkeeper position. To do this, they might advertise on popular remote job boards or post on LinkedIn. Additionally, many work from home staffing agencies have an existing pool of candidates they turn to also.

How Do I Get Hired?

First, you provide your basic information to the staffing agency. This includes your work history and job preferences. Then a recruiter works with you to find a role that is a good fit. Eventually, there are interviews to complete as you go through the hiring process. Finally, you receive an offer of employment or a fixed-term contract.

Generally speaking, staffing agencies streamline your job search. You hand your resume to them and your recruiter uses it to find multiple open roles on your behalf.

What Remote Positions Can I Find?

Some staffing agencies work in specific industries. For example, let’s say Staffing Solutions RUS specializes in placing legal staff. Others offer broad staffing services across all industries.

Regardless, you can find just about any remote job vacancy via staffing firms. Common remote roles regularly promoted by staffing agencies include:

  • Customer Service
  • Administrative Assistant
  • Payroll
  • Recruiter
  • Marketing Specialist

And, that’s just a short list!

What Types of Employment Do Staffing Agencies Offer?

Typically, staffing agencies are known for temp jobs.

I hottest in the Office Award goes to Ryan the temp

And, yes, there are definitely temporary jobs available. However, it doesn’t stop there. There are different types of employment you need to know about before registering with a staffing agency.

Temporary

Often, companies use staffing agencies to fill short-term vacancies. A common example is when an employee takes maternity/paternity leave for a few months.

Another scenario is when companies periodically require extra help. For example, an online retailer needs all hands on deck during the holidays.

In both scenarios, these companies use staffing agencies to fill roles temporarily. These assignments typically last for just a few months.

Temp to Hire

Temp to hire is like a trial run. In other words, the company is open to hiring a temp worker permanently but wants to test the waters first. So, there’s a short-term contract in place with an option to hire at the end of it.

Direct Hire

Finally, there is direct hire. This is when a company turns to a work from home staffing agency to place a full time employee. Once a person is placed via the staffing agency, they are officially an employee of that company.

What Else Should I Know About Work From Home Staffing Agencies?

Many work from home staffing agencies have in-person and remote roles available. However, some (like Belay) are entirely remote. Always tell your recruiter you’re interested in remote work only.

Keep in mind, a lot of remote job openings have location requirements. This holds true for staffing agencies too. So, as you work with a staffing agency, don’t be surprised to see jobs that require candidates to live in select states and even specific cities. It’s completely normal.

Lastly, be open and honest with your recruiter. Their job is to find you a job that aligns with your career ideals and goals. Tell them what you’re looking for and the types of companies you see yourself working for. Only accept a placement if it’s a role that actually interests you.

In the end, work from home staffing agencies are a reliable source of remote jobs. However, keep in mind that staffing agencies do not guarantee placement.

Finally, visit the work from home staffing agencies on this list. After you get established with one (or two) you’ll have a steady stream of remote jobs coming your way. Pro tip: Focus on a few agencies within your desired industry!

If you have any questions, let me know in the comments below. I’ll do my best to steer you in the right direction. You’ve got this!

Best PC build for emulation in 2024

Building a gaming PC specifically for emulators has become much more popular than you may think. Well, not you specifically – you’re the one searching that exact term. But in general, it’s something that has slipped under the radar when it comes to custom PC building.

Despite that being the case, there are still a tonne of individuals who are looking to create the best gaming PC for emulators. Well, look no further, the following build has been tailored for the best gaming experience for emulators. Whether you’re looking to emulate N64, PS1/2/3, XBOX360, Wii, or Switch, you name it, this thing will be capable of handling whatever emulations you throw at it.

PC hardware deals

If you are planning on building out your next gaming PC, then finding deals on some components is the best way to get something better for cheaper. In that case, you can find deals on GPUsCPUscoolersmotherboardspower supplies, and cases. There are always some discounts to be found even if it’s not any special sales time so you can save a few bucks here and there.

What You Get For Your Money

Let’s be honest, we could have probably built a gaming PC for emulators at a slightly cheaper price point. However, it wouldn’t have showcased anywhere near as much ‘bang for your buck’ as this particular build. That being said, we still tried to keep it as cheap as possible for this particular usage.

Performance

From a performance standpoint, this PC will handle pretty much every emulator you can throw at it. Most emulations require good single-core performance, so most people opt for an Intel CPU. However, the CPU we’ve opted for still has more than enough power to handle the most demanding emulator scenarios.

Furthermore, as we’ll discuss shortly, we’ve opted for a standalone GPU for this build – even though it doesn’t really require one. That being said, having a standalone GPU allows you to play both emulations and PC games – something other PC builds for emulations can’t boast.

3 Approaches to Business Intelligence as a Service

Editor’s note: In this article, Irene leverages ScienceSoft’s experience to share three approaches to Business Intelligence (BI) as a service from the perspective of analyzed data. If you want to learn more about the value BI as a service can bring, explore our offer in managed analytics services.

‘Owning’ a business intelligence (BI) solution is no longer the only possibility for a company striving for informed decision-making. The data analytics outsourcing market is forecasted to grow, which means that more and more companies will choose ‘renting’ their BI over any type of implementing it.

Before taking a closer look at the approaches to BI as a service, let me quickly define the main differences between BI as a service (also known as managed analytics services or data analytics outsourcing) and BI implementation services:

  • BI implementation presupposes a 6-8 month project. Once it’s completed, a company gets a data analytics solution (on-premises, in-cloud, or hybrid one).
  • BI as a service presupposes continuous cooperation, where the outsourcing partner is totally responsible for the solution’s technical embodiment, and the company gets access to first analytical insights in 1-5 days from the cooperation start.

bi as a service

BI as a service based on internal data

Relying solely on the data retrieved from a company’s systems, this approach provides insights into the company’s business processes, customers, performance, and more. As a main advantage of this approach, I would mention a plethora of data available for the analysis.

For illustration, let me draw your attention to one of ScienceSoft’s projects, where a metal parts manufacturer requested us to help them prioritize their product categories as they wanted this strategic decision to be data-driven. In the course of the project, ScienceSoft scrutinized the manufacturer’s 2-year financial and production history data into meaningful insights and built reports and graphs so that they could glance at the findings and find the answers to their business questions.

However, there is a significant drawback in getting insights derived from internal data solely. The company is limited to their ‘internal wisdom’ and lacks external data for sound comparison.

Be one of those companies that make quick and fact-based decisions!

ScienceSoft can help you derive actionable insights out of your company’s data with minimal efforts spent on your side.

BI as a service based on external data

This approach is frequently used to run strategic market analysis or social media analytics. The biggest challenge while working with external data is ensuring data quality, as it usually comes from multiple disintegrated data sources and can contain errors and discrepancies.

Have a look, how this approach was realized in our other project, where a management consultancy outsourced the analysis of market data to ScienceSoft to get valuable insights into different industries in various economic conditions. To solve this task, we deployed the BI infrastructure with a data warehouse and an OLAP cube of 40+ dimensions on our server, and our customer was provided with the access to the pre-built reports and dashboards, with the possibility to run ad hoc analysis.

Hybrid approach

Using data from both inside and outside, a company can get the broadest picture that encompasses both their internal operations and the market perspective. No wonder that a hybrid approach is the most widespread.

According to the Business Application Research Center (BARC), companies mostly derive data from multiple data sources. Besides, there’s a trend towards increasing the number of data sources (a half of BARC’s respondents believe that they already experience this trend). Also, the number of data sources naturally depends on the company size: BARC names a median number of 5 internal sources for mid-sized companies and 10 sources for large ones.

Is there the best approach?

Of all the approaches, I consider the hybrid one the most efficient as it ensures the variety of data sources and offers better scope for analysis. However, as you may see from the examples I’ve outlined, the scenarios with getting insights from just internal or external data are also possible. So, if you need to define which approach will work better for your business, let me know.

NVIDIA Wins Best Choice Awards at COMPUTEX

Building on more than a dozen years of stacking wins at the COMPUTEX trade show’s annual Best Choice Awards, NVIDIA was today honored with BCAs for its latest technologies.

The NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip won the Computer and System Category Award; the NVIDIA Spectrum-X AI Ethernet networking platform won the Networking and Communication Category Award; and the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform won a Golden Award.

The awards — judged on the functionality, innovation and market potential of products exhibited at the leading computer and technology expo — were announced ahead of the show, which runs from June 4-7, in Taipei.

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang will deliver a COMPUTEX keynote address on Sunday, June 2, at 7 p.m. Taiwan time, at the NTU Sports Center and online.

NVIDIA AI Enterprise Takes Gold

NVIDIA AI Enterprise — a cloud-native software platform that streamlines the development and deployment of copilots and other generative AI applications — won a Golden Award.

The platform lifts the burden of maintaining and securing complex AI software, so businesses can focus on building and harnessing the technology’s game-changing insights.

Microservices that come with NVIDIA AI Enterprise — including NVIDIA NIM and NVIDIA CUDA-X — optimize model performance and run anywhere with enterprise-grade security, support and stability, offering users a smooth transition from prototype to production.

Plus, the platform’s ability to improve AI performance results in better overall utilization of computing resources. This means companies using NVIDIA AI Enterprise need fewer servers to support the same workloads, greatly reducing their energy costs and data center footprint.

More BCA Wins for NVIDIA Technologies

NVIDIA GH200 and Spectrum-X were named best in their respective categories.

The NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip is the world’s first truly heterogeneous accelerated platform for AI and high-performance computing workloads. It combines the power-efficient NVIDIA Grace CPU with an NVIDIA Hopper architecture-based GPU over a high-bandwidth 900GB/s coherent NVIDIA NVLink chip-to-chip interconnect.

The superchip — shipping worldwide and powering more than 40 AI supercomputers across global research centers, system makers and cloud providers — supercharges scientific innovation with accelerated computing and scale-out solutions for AI inference, large language models, recommenders, vector databases, HPC applications and more.

The Spectrum-X platform, featuring NVIDIA Spectrum SN5600 switches and NVIDIA BlueField-3 SuperNICs, is the world’s first Ethernet fabric built for AI, accelerating generative AI network performance 1.6x over traditional Ethernet fabrics.

It can serve as the backend AI fabric for any AI cloud or large enterprise deployment, and is available from major server manufacturers as part of the full NVIDIA AI stack.

NVIDIA Partners Recognized

Other BCA winners include NVIDIA partners Acer, ASUS, MSI and YUAN, which were given Golden Awards for their respective laptops, gaming motherboards and smart-city applications — all powered by NVIDIA technologies, such as NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPUs, the NVIDIA Studio platform for creative workflows and the NVIDIA Jetson platform for edge AI and robotics.

ASUS also won a Computer and System Category Award, while MSI won a Gaming and Entertainment Category Award.

Windows 11 will soon let you grab text from images on your Android phone

Phone Link (called Link to Windows on the phone side) lets you sync calls, messages, notifications, and images — and cast your entire phone — from your Android phone to your Windows computer. It also works in a more limited fashion with iOS devices, which only sync notifications, messages, and calls over Bluetooth.

Phone Link will now let you select and copy text from images synced from your Android phone.
Screenshot: Nathan Edwards / The Verge

The Windows Snipping Tool got text extraction last year around the same time Phone Link got image share notifications, so it’s been possible for a bit to extract text from phone photos with the Snipping Tool. This update just saves you a step and lets you do it in-app. The feature is live in Phone Link 1.24051.91.0 and I gave it a quick test in Insider Preview Build 22635.3646 (Beta Channel).

In my testing, the OCR was decent, though it made more errors than either Samsung or Apple’s text extractors with the same photo of a book page. For longer passages you’re probably better off enabling cross-device copy and paste, extracting the text on your phone, and sending it to your PC that way.

Super Earth scientists ‘spaghettified’ in Dark Fluid research incident: Here’s why that’s good news for Helldivers 2 players

There’s good news and bad news for Helldivers 2 players, although in this case they’re basically the same thing. The bad news is that 12 Super Earth scientists at a Dark Fluid Research Facility were, uh, “spaghettified” after the volatile material suddenly and without warning collapsed into a “micro black hole.” The good news is that this unfortunate incident has some players convinced that the arrival of the Illuminate, the so-far-absent third enemy faction in Helldivers 2, is imminent.

We will be talking about leaks and spoilers here, for the record, so stop reading now if you want to avoid such things.

visual studio – Git push over-writes remote without using force?

A co-worker and I have used Subversion for years, but we’re very new to Git. We have a DevOps Git repository (local not cloud). We’re working on the same branch, but we’re not working on the same files. My co-worker is using Git via Visual Studio, and I’m using TortoiseGit.

My co-worker committed and pushed changes to our “central” repository that we’re both using as our remote. I try to always PULL before I commit/push. It seems that one of my pushes has managed to overwrite my coworkers changes. I don’t use Force, and I’m definitely not working on the same files.

If I forget to do a Pull, and I do a Push, does it overwrite files on the remote server without error? I’m used to Subversion where it’ll force me to first update locally before I can commit.

What can cause what I’ve described?

I of course expected my Push to either contain my coworkers changes, or maybe to warn me if I’d forgotten to first do a Pull and maybe my local repo was out of date.
