The essential core of the democratic process is voting. A free, fair vote is not just essential, it is sacrosanct: Without it, everything else collapses like a house of cards. And that’s why it’s so disheartening to know that there are those among us who would prey upon our delicate democracy and twist it to serve their own selfish purposes. That’s right, I’m talking about Digimon fans.
Luckily, just as there are those eager to corrupt our democratic freedom, there are others who stand firmly in its defense—like, for instance, digital videogame storefront GOG.
“We’d like to share an important update regarding the recent surge in votes for Digimon World on the GOG Dreamlist,” GOG wrote on X. “Between July 1st and July 21st, the game received over 52,000 votes. After reviewing the surge, we found that approximately 26,000 votes during that period were cast by fake accounts.
“To preserve the integrity of the GOG Dreamlist and to keep this support fair and relevant, we’ve removed those votes. The Dreamlist goal is to show and convince the whole world that these games deserve to live forever. Ensuring the data behind it is accurate and meaningful is essential to that mission.”
The GOG Dreamlist, for those not familiar, is basically a site-wide wishlist where users can vote for the games they want to see brought to the site. You can nominate and vote on pretty much anything, from early ’80s classics to new releases: 1983’s One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird has 36 votes, for instance (and deserves a lot more), while The Blood of Dawnwalker, which isn’t even out yet, has 291. Both of which are rookie numbers: The classic space sim Freelancer has more than 95,000 votes.
I’m of two minds on this. On one hand, it’s good to see GOG taking the process reasonably seriously: This isn’t the final word on what does and doesn’t come to the site, but it is influential.
But on the other, well, it’s the Boaty McBoatface thing, right? Internet polls are meant to be gamed, and frankly if you’re not screwing with them in whatever way possible to get the result you want, you’re not trying hard enough.

GOG, to its credit, gave a nod to those who were trying hard enough: “We remain extremely impressed by the genuine support for Digimon World and appreciate the passion of its fans.” That’s not going to stop it from removing those votes, though.

There’s a new addition to the Alien universe and for the first time, it’s in the form of a TV series. Alien: Earth premieres Aug. 8, nearly a year to the day after Alien: Romulus, the latest film in the Alien franchise, hit theaters.
Created by Noah Hawley, the Emmy-winning creator of Fargo and Legion, Alien: Earth is set in 2120, two years before the events of the 1979 original Alien movie. And this time it doesn’t drag us to the deepest reaches of space — it brings extraterrestrial horror to our home planet.
Unlike many other film franchises, all of the Alien films currently live inside one streaming app — from the original to 2024’s Alien: Romulus. As of Aug. 8, that will also include the Alien: Earth series. It’s a modern-day streaming miracle, truly. How many Alien movies are there?
There are seven films in the classic Alien franchise, including the newest release, Alien: Romulus. We can debate until the cows come home if it’s possible to effectively critique a system such as capitalism from within it, but here we are. All I know is I enjoyed the video, it even made me laugh out loud once, which Borderlands has never made me do before, so that’s something.
Vibrators are some of the most approachable sex toys on the market, but there are so many types of vibrators that it can make even a long-term vibrator owner go a bit mad. From bullet vibrators and the iconic rabbit vibrator to all those funny shaped but deliciously potent vibrators in between, shopping for one can get overwhelming. Luckily, I have a few tips and tricks to help you narrow things down.
First, look at the materials. For vibrators, you want them to be made with 100 percent platinum-cured silicone and/or ABS plastic. Hard glossy plastic is OK for parts that don’t touch your genitals, but platinum silicone is nonporous, easy to clean, and body-safe. Unlike lesser grades of silicone, platinum silicone doesn’t give off any weird smells or compounds that may be unpleasant or even harmful to your genitals. That’s because it’s chemically different from other kinds of silicone. Surgical steel (also called 316 stainless steel), and borosilicate glass are just as body-safe, durable, and nonporous but less common in vibrators and more common in dildos.
Second, look at the charger the vibrator comes with. Is it USB-A, USB-C, or a proprietary AC adapter? I try to keep things simple and stick with vibrators that are USB rechargeable either with USB-A or USB-C. It’s way too easy to lose the charger, and there’s comfort in knowing you can use any charging cable you have lying around. There’s nothing worse than a toy that dies on you mid-use.
Thirdly, when you get your new vibrator, test its vibration strength on the tip of your nose first. You should feel it tickling your nostrils and sinuses, giving you an idea of how deep into your genital tissue it can stimulate. Remember, about 90 percent of the clitoris can’t be stimulated directly because it’s under the skin, so deep vibes are important. ‘PC gamers: hobbyists or heroes?’ is not the title of a new report from data firm Newzoo on the Japanese gaming market in 2025, but it probably should be. Turns out, our humble platform has been singlehandedly keeping the rate of profit propped up in the country while consoles have lagged for a good while now. But darker times beckon: the experts predict it’s set to slow down in the years to come.
In Japanese yen, 2024 was a year of eye-popping growth for the humble personal computer. It made up ¥240 billion of the overall gaming market’s ¥2,483 billion value that year, a year-on-year increase of 16.2% on 2023. Which is nuts. That’s a lot of growth.
To be fair, PC is by far the smallest of the three segments Newzoo divides its analysis into, and thus it’s easier for it to make bigger relative shifts with comparatively smaller absolute numbers. The console market, meanwhile, was valued at ¥525 billion last year, a -3.1% drop on 2023 (which the experts attribute to “the Switch’s lifecycle and a weaker premium slate”), while the mobile market makes both PC and console look like tadpoles: it was worth ¥1,742 billion, a 5.2% increase on 2023.
So PC might be small in Japan (though hey, I think it’s doing better than the benighted Xbox, which Newzoo puts at under a million units sold cumulatively—760,000—as of December last year), but its rate of growth puts everyone else to shame. That’s even more the case when you translate the yen figures to US dollars.
The yen has been looking a tad sickly recently. Last year it fell to the weakest it’s been against the US dollar since 1986, and this year hasn’t been much better. In dollars, then, every sector of the Japanese gaming market actually shrunk last year. Consoles were down -10.1%, mobile -2.4%, and the overall market slumped -3.3%. Only PC marched on with a 7.8% year-on-year growth rate measured in US dollars. “PC gaming has been the main growth engine for the past seven years,” reports Newzoo, in both yen and dollars.
No wonder the last five or ten years have been such a feast when it comes to Japanese games finally paying attention to PC, but don’t hoist the victory flag high just yet. Despite the impressive numbers, the forecast is that PC is set to climb down from the sky-high rates of growth it’s enjoyed in Japan for the last near-decade.
Specifically, Newzoo forecasts that PC is about to be eclipsed by consoles for the first time in a long time in Japan. In yen, the period 2018-2021 saw PC revenue growth leap up 12%, from ¥95 billion to ¥135 billion. 2021 to 2024 was even wilder: a 21.4% growth from ¥134 billion to ¥240 billion. Console revenue, meanwhile, only grew by 5.3% and 1.7% in the same timeframes (in USD, console revenue shrank a wince-inducing -8.7% between 2021 and 2024).

And yet, Newzoo reckons that PC revenue will jump by a mere 5.1% (in yen and USD) between 2024 and 2027, while consoles will enjoy a 6.3% climb.
I think it’s clear what’s happening here, and it’s called the Switch 2. For years, PC in Japan has enjoyed filling the vacuum caused by Nintendo stubbornly refusing to update its flagship product. But now it’s here and Japanese consumers are taking to it like nothing else.
So I guess the good news is, hey, maybe in a few years Nintendo will forget to release a console again for a while, and PC can once again enjoy the warm sunlight of popularity in traditionally console-centric Japan. Hey, at least we’re not Xbox.

The biggest change? The new Liquid Glass design (think Windows Vista, but arguably more thoughtful), which looks to be Apple’s largest visual update in years. Last year, Apple didn’t nix any iPhones from its eligibility list, but that’s not the case for 2025 — a few models are getting cut this time. All iPhone 8 models and the iPhone X were the last to get the boot in 2023, and this year the 2018 models are getting left behind. If you have an ineligible device, you won’t be able to download iOS 26 when it becomes available this fall.
These three iPhones won’t be compatible with iOS 26
Unlike last year, several iPhone models won’t be eligible to download the newest iOS when it makes its debut this fall. This trio of models first released in 2018 won’t be coming to the iOS 26 party:

While we don’t yet know the new iPhones Apple will be dropping this fall — though there are iPhone 17 rumors — we do know, per Apple’s site, that the phones listed below will be compatible with iOS 26. Basically, if you have an iPhone that was announced in 2019 or later, you’re in the clear:
What if I don’t want to buy a new iPhone?
If you want to continue using your older iPhone that isn’t supported by iOS 26, that’s fine. However, you’ll miss out on security updates which could potentially put your phone at risk for malware and other threats. Additionally, some apps may stop working if they require a certain version of iOS or later. And of course, you won’t be able to access the latest features iOS 26 offers.
When will iOS 26 become available?
Apple usually rolls out its latest iOS in mid-September, just a few days before the new iPhones hit store shelves. Last year, it released iOS 18 on Monday, Sept. 16. Expect a confirmation of the release date at the iPhone 17 event, expected in early September.
iOS 26 features we’re excited about
Liquid Glass design: Your home screen is getting revamped with new app icons, including dark mode and all-clear options. You’ll also notice buttons with a new floating design. Liquid Glass was designed to make all of Apple’s OSes more cohesive.
Phone app redesign: You’ll finally be able to scroll through contacts, recent calls and voicemail messages all on one screen. It also comes with a new feature called Hold Assist that’ll notify you when an agent comes to the phone so you can avoid the elevator music.
Live Translate: iOS 26 is bringing the ability to have a conversation via phone call or text message with someone who speaks another language. Live Translate will translate your conversation in real time.
Polls feature: Coming to group messages in the Messages app, chat members will be able to create polls. This can help prevent the unwanted 30+ messages when it comes to deciding which restaurant you’re meeting at this weekend.
