Turns out Ever After Inc.™—a megacorporation from the real world—has discovered storybooks make for excellent cheap labor. Dragons file TPS reports. Knights optimize synergies. Heroes attend team-building exercises. And there’s no dragon to slay that can fix this mess.

So Flynt does the only logical thing: he joins the company. To take down Ever After Inc.™, he’ll need to climb the corporate ladder from within, rallying other trapped storybook characters and figuring out how to rewrite the rules before it’s too late.

Escape from Ever After builds on classic turn-based RPG combat but keeps you engaged every single turn through timing-based action commands. When Flynt throws his buckler or an enemy winds up for an attack, you need to nail your button presses. Perfect timing means extra damage on offense and flawless blocks on defense. Mess up your inputs and you’ll pay for it.

It’s the kind of system that makes every turn feel active rather than passive. No sitting back and watching animations play out—you’re always involved.

More Than Button-Mashing

Raw damage only gets you so far. Enemies have their own tricks: armor that shrugs off weak hits, metal shields that deflect certain attacks, poison that chips away at your health, and battlefield hazards that punish careless aggression.

The Research system lets you study enemies mid-battle, permanently revealing their health and weak points. That information gets saved to your Bestiary, giving you an edge in future encounters. The more you learn, the smarter you can fight.

Build Your Party Your Way

Between fights, you can customize your team through the Trinket system. Each character can equip trinkets that unlock new abilities, passive bonuses, or utility effects, limited only by their Trinket Points. Want a glass cannon? Stack damage. Prefer a support build? Load up on buffs and healing.

You can also upgrade individual attacks using resources scattered throughout the world. These systems reward experimentation over min-maxing, letting you find builds that match your playstyle.

Every Book Tells a Different Story

Combat is only half the game. Escape from Ever After is structured around distinct storybook worlds, each with its own genre and atmosphere. One chapter might be a cozy fairytale forest under threat of corporate development. The next could dive into noir mystery or Lovecraftian horror.

android – Visual Studio does no longer show any devices for my .NET MAUI projects

I have several projects written in .NET MAUI using .NET 9.0 and for some reason since this week the list of devices in Visual Studio 2022 is empty. Normally, in this popup I would see my two physical Android devices which are connected via USB and my test iPhone also connected via USB. Not even the emulators or the iOS remote device (the developer Mac connected via network) are listed.

I have made no changes to either the mobile devices or Visual Studio when the problem appeared. I have done extensive research and there have been similar issues in the past with specific Visual Studio versions, but the last big one was over a year ago.

Here is an excerpt of what I have tried so far:

  • Made sure the correct workloads are installed for Visual Studio 2022 and that the components are all updated.
  • Enabled Hyper-V as Windows hardware feature.
  • Verified that my hardware acceleration is enabled.
  • Made sure that developer mode on all connected devices is enabled and plugged all devices out and back in.
  • Used the repair option for Visual Studio 2022 to reset all of its configurations and settings to defaults.
  • Restarted the computer.

My Android devices do show up in Android Studio, but Visual Studio is completely empty and I struggle to figure out why.

With RAM prices soaring, it’s time next-gen phone specs got creative

The RAM crisis affects smartphones, PC components, handheld game consoles, and more, is really starting to bite. Between product delays, cancellations, and the expectation of price hikes, 2026 isn’t shaping up to be a good year for buying new gadgets. While the outlook isn’t great, the tech industry remains adaptive, if nothing else. Every crisis is also an opportunity, and I’m not the only one who thinks that.

I have some sympathy for Carl Pei’s position that the RAM shortage presents an opportunity for brands that are less dependent on spec sheets — and the looming price increases — to market their wares. I don’t think that Nothing is exactly primed to benefit any more than anyone else (affordable phones are probably more vulnerable to BOM price hikes), but that’s by the by. The RAM shortage might present some opportunities for brands to break the mould, but will they take it?

How much RAM do you need to buy?

The big decision that brands have to make is how best to respond to this shared problem. Simply charging more or settling for less RAM (and perhaps storage space) to hold prices steady are the obvious options, but they might also be the weakest: consumers will ask why they’re paying more for the same hardware or why the spec sheet is weaker this year. Waiting to see what your competitors do also feels like a no-win situation.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume brands unanimously come to the realization that everyone’s prices are likely to go up in 2026. The question then becomes: could — or should — you invest that headroom in something other than memory?

Instead of spending more on RAM, maybe brands can upgrade other specs?

There are definitely some interesting decisions that could be made. Perhaps a baseline $799 flagship can settle for 8GB of RAM (which was perfectly fine a couple of years ago) instead of 12GB, and spend the difference on improving its camera setup. Everyone loves better-looking pictures, and a better camera, or an extra one, is a good way to get a leg up on the competition. Alternatively, investing in a larger silicon-carbon battery would stand out far more than a little extra RAM.

Maybe mid-range phones can finally spring for those pricey IP ratings, or invest a bit more money in design and build materials. Alternatively, brands could double down on unique software tools, ideas like hardware keys, MagSafe-style wireless charging, or other smaller features that often make the difference between mid- and flagship-tier handsets.

Those features can make a tangible difference to the everyday user experience, and consumers might feel that they’re getting more bang for a slight price increase versus a few more gigabytes of RAM (or even the same amount as last year). In any case, these options could allow phones to differentiate themselves from those that take the more obvious route of simply passing on the ballooning cost of RAM.

That’s fine on a phone with 12GB or 16GB to go around, but under tighter constraints like 8GB, you have to consider whether AI features or app responsiveness should take precedence. Given the mixed reception to AI tools, I don’t think many consumers would be all that bothered if some offline features take a little longer to boot up. Still, if you’re planning to launch the best AI-equipped phone, having large amounts of RAM is pretty non-negotiable these days.

There’s also a tangent here that doesn’t get talked about much anymore: better memory management. Smarter app eviction, more aggressive background limits, and perhaps even resorting to that dreaded swap space could all help stretch smaller RAM budgets further. That won’t magically solve the problem — AI models, in particular, are still voracious — but it could be enough to smooth over the experience on phones that can’t afford to throw 12GB or 16GB of RAM at the problem.

Even so, this effectively splits the market into two segments: the big brands that can absorb RAM costs or pass them on to consumers in order to maximize AI capabilities, and the smaller players that can’t.

The race for AI means the specs aren’t dead yet.

While this is already true to some extent — Google and Samsung have two of the larger AI ecosystems, even though Nano runs with reasonably modest requirements — the gap could widen if there’s a divergence between phones that can and can’t meet future hardware demands. Likewise, the experience may feel very different between phones with spare RAM to dedicate to AI and those without.

Perhaps this is a good thing. AI isn’t universally loved in the mobile space (or anywhere, for that matter), and nudging some companies to seek out alternative ways to differentiate their products could be healthy. Maybe brands that focus more on battery life, photography, or distinctive designs might fare better than AI-obsessed competitors — but I doubt many corporate strategies would want to bet on that.

The crisis can’t last forever

All that being said, smartphone designs take years, not months. Changing plans at the last minute to accommodate the explosive prices of RAM in the past few months is unlikely. There’s probably very little the Samsung Galaxy S26 series can do about it, for example, other than to stump up the added cost or move to a slightly different RAM configuration. Changing a broader range of features is off the table.

However, phones launching in the second half of 2026 have had a bit more time to weigh additional options. There are optimistic expectations that the crisis will ease somewhat by early 2027, in which case waiting it out might be the best bet. That said, the RAM crunch could easily persist beyond the next year. If it does, it may pay to start thinking about how to build more exciting phones without relying on copious amounts of RAM and storage to pad out spec sheets or power next-gen AI models.

Obviously, I don’t think expensive RAM is a good thing, let alone a golden opportunity for some brands. It’s a headache that will make devices harder to buy and more expensive, at least temporarily. Still, there may be a sliver of opportunity for brands to shake up the status quo over the next year or two. We’ll just have to wait and see if we end up with some great buys out of it.

Introducing Pipelines for Long-Running AI Workflows

Clarifai’s Compute Orchestration lets you deploy models on your own compute, control how they scale, and decide where inference runs across clusters and nodepools.

As AI systems move beyond single inference calls toward long-running tasks, multi-step workflows, and agent-driven execution, orchestration needs to do more than just start containers. It needs to manage execution over time, handle failure, and route traffic intelligently across compute.

This release builds on that foundation with native support for long-running pipelines, model routing across nodepools and environments, and agentic model execution using Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Introducing Pipelines for Long-Running, Multi-Step AI Workflows

AI systems don’t break at inference. They break when workflows span multiple steps, run for hours, or need to recover from failure.

Today, teams rely on stitched-together scripts, cron jobs, and queue workers to manage these workflows. As agent workloads and MLOps pipelines grow more complex, this setup becomes hard to operate, debug, and scale.

With Clarifai 12.0, we’re introducing Pipelines, a native way to define, run, and manage long-running, multi-step AI workflows directly on the Clarifai platform.

Why Pipelines

Most AI platforms are optimized for short-lived inference calls. But real production workflows look very different:

  • Multi-step agent logic that spans tools, models, and external APIs

  • Long-running jobs like batch processing, fine-tuning, or evaluations

  • End-to-end MLOps workflows that require reproducibility, versioning, and control

Pipelines are built to handle this class of problems.

Clarifai Pipelines act as the orchestration backbone for advanced AI systems. They let you define container-based steps, control execution order or parallelism, manage state and secrets, and monitor runs from start to finish, all without bolting together separate orchestration infrastructure.

Each pipeline is versioned, reproducible, and executed on Clarifai-managed compute, giving you fine-grained control over how complex AI workflows run at scale.

Let’s walk through how Pipelines work, what you can build with them, and how to get started using the CLI and API. 

How Pipelines Work

At a high level, a Clarifai Pipeline is a versioned, multi-step workflow made up of containerized steps that run asynchronously on Clarifai compute.

Each step is an isolated unit of execution with its own code, dependencies, and resource settings. Pipelines define how these steps connect, whether they run sequentially or in parallel, and how data flows between them.

You define a pipeline once, upload it, and then trigger runs that can execute for minutes, hours, or longer.

Initialize a pipeline project

This scaffolds a complete pipeline project using the same structure and conventions as Clarifai custom models.

Each pipeline step follows the exact same footprint developers already use when uploading models to Clarifai: a configuration file, a dependency file, and an executable Python entrypoint.

A typical scaffolded pipeline looks like this:

At the pipeline level, config.yaml defines how steps are connected and orchestrated, including execution order, parameters, and dependencies between steps.

Each step is a self-contained unit that looks and behaves just like a custom model:

  • config.yaml defines the step’s inputs, runtime, and compute requirements

  • requirements.txt specifies the Python dependencies for that step

  • pipeline_step.py contains the actual execution logic, where you write code to process data, call models, or interact with external systems

This means building pipelines feels immediately familiar. If you’ve already uploaded custom models to Clarifai, you’re working with the same configuration style, the same versioning model, and the same deployment mechanics—just composed into multi-step workflows.

Clarifai builds and versions each step as a containerized artifact, ensuring reproducible runs.

Once running, you can monitor progress, inspect logs, and manage executions directly through the platform.

Under the hood, pipeline execution is powered by Argo Workflows, allowing Clarifai to reliably orchestrate long-running, multi-step jobs with proper dependency management, retries, and fault handling.

Pipelines are designed to support everything from automated MLOps workflows to advanced AI agent orchestration, without requiring you to operate your own workflow engine.

Model Routing with Multi-Nodepool Deployments

With this release, Compute Orchestration now supports model routing across multiple nodepools within a single deployment.

Model routing allows a deployment to reference multiple pre-existing nodepools through a deployment_config.yaml. These nodepools can belong to different clusters and can span cloud, on-prem, or hybrid environments.

Here’s how model routing works:

  • Nodepools are treated as an ordered priority list. Requests are routed to the first nodepool by default.

  • A nodepool is considered fully loaded when queued requests exceed configured age or quantity thresholds and the deployment has reached its max_replicas, or the nodepool has reached its maximum instance capacity.

  • When this happens, the next nodepool in the list is automatically warmed and a portion of traffic is routed to it.

  • The deployment’s min_replicas applies only to the primary nodepool.

  • The deployment’s max_replicas applies independently to each nodepool, not as a global sum.

This approach enables high availability and predictable scaling without duplicating deployments or manually managing failover. Deployments can now span multiple compute pools while behaving as a single, resilient service.

Agentic Capabilities with MCP Support

Clarifai expands support for agentic AI systems by making it easier to combine agent-aware models with Model Context Protocol integration. Models can discover, call, and reason over both custom and open-source MCP servers during inference, while remaining fully managed on the Clarifai platform.

Agentic Models with MCP Integration

You can upload models with agentic capabilities by using the AgenticModelClass, which extends the standard model class to support tool discovery and execution. The upload workflow remains the same as existing custom models, using the same project structure, configuration files, and deployment process.

Agentic models are configured to work with MCP servers, which expose tools that the model can call during inference.

Key capabilities include:

  • Iterative tool calling within a single predict or generate request

  • Tool discovery and execution handled by the agentic model class

  • Support for both streaming and non-streaming inference

  • Compatibility with the OpenAI-compatible API and Clarifai SDKs

A complete example of uploading and running an agentic model is available here. This repository shows how to upload a GPT-OSS-20B model with agentic capabilities enabled using the AgenticModelClass.

Deploying Public MCP Servers on Clarifai

Clarifai has already supported deploying custom MCP servers, allowing teams to build their own tool servers and run them on the platform. This release expands that capability by making it easy to deploy public MCP servers directly on the Platform.

Public MCP servers can now be uploaded using a simple configuration, without requiring teams to host or manage the server infrastructure themselves. Once deployed, these servers can be shared across models and workflows, allowing agentic models to access the same tools.

This example demonstrates how to deploy a public, open-source MCP server on Clarifai as an API endpoint.

Pay-As-You-Go Billing with Prepaid Credits

We’ve introduced a new Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) plan to make billing simpler and more predictable for self-serve users.

The PAYG plan has no monthly minimums and far fewer feature gates. You prepay credits, use them across the platform, and pay only for what you consume. To improve reliability, the plan also includes auto-recharge, so long-running jobs don’t stop unexpectedly when credits run low.

To help you get started, every verified user receives a one-time $5 welcome credit, which can be used across inference, Compute Orchestration, deployments, and more. You can also claim an additional $5 for your organization.

Clarifai as an Inference Provider in the Vercel AI SDK

TikTok quietly launches a micro drama app called ‘PineDrama’

TikTok has quietly released a new standalone short drama app called PineDrama in the U.S. and Brazil. The app offers access to micro dramas, which are essentially bite-sized TV shows that can be watched in a series of one-minute episodes. Think TikTok, but every single video you come across is a short episode of a fictional story.

PineDrama is available on iOS and Android. It’s free and currently ad-free, though that could change in the future.

The news was first reported by Business Insider.

You can find content through the app’s “Discover” tab, where you can sort through “All” or “Trending dramas, or through endless vertical recommendations that are tailored to your taste. PineDrama features a variety of genres, including thriller, romance, family, and more. Examples of popular shows include “Love at First Bite” and “The Officer Fell For Me.”

The app features a “Watch history” section where you can jump back into the various series you’re watching. There’s also a “Favorites” section where you can save the dramas you like the most. You can also share thoughts with other viewers in the comment section, and enter a full-screen viewing experience that gets rid of the caption and sidebar.

TikTok is now looking to replicate this success with PineDrama. The company already dominates the short-form social media space and is now aiming to take on another media category.
