At AI Summit, South Korea Outlines Its AI Future With NVIDIA and Partners


At this week’s AI Summit in San Francisco, South Korean President Jae Myung Lee and some of the country’s top business leaders and researchers are meeting with NVIDIA and ecosystem partners to chart Korea’s AI progress.

Building on NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to Korea last month, this week’s discussions and announcements advance the nation’s full-stack push to expand Korea’s AI infrastructure and expertise on its path toward becoming a global center for AI innovation. 

To start, NVIDIA and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) today announced a joint AI research lab at the KAIST Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI in Seoul, dedicated to advancing agentic AI for South Korea. It’s the first joint AI lab between a Korean university and any global technology company.

The collaboration will establish a robust academic AI research program, bringing together NVIDIA full-stack AI expertise, NVIDIA Nemotron open models and NVIDIA AI Cloud partner computing with the world-class scientific talent at KAIST, one of Asia’s premier research universities.

NVIDIA and Korea Partners Announce Next Wave of AI Innovation 🔗

NVIDIA and its Korea ecosystem partners — from NAVER, SK Telecom and Hyundai Motor Group to the nation’s top research universities, KAIST and Seoul National University (SNU) — are committing to developing national AI factories and physical AI platforms, as well as advancing joint research in agentic AI. 

Core to it all: NAVER, Brookfield and NVIDIA will expand NAVER’s NVIDIA DSX AI factory at its GAK Sejong data center to 200 megawatts — roughly 100,000 GPUs, built on the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform — more than tripling the initial buildout announced in June

Plus, SK Group and NVIDIA today announced plans for a $500-billion-plus comprehensive partnership to establish AI infrastructure serving the surging demand for global compute. Broadening initial plans announced in June, the expanded collaboration will deploy NVIDIA Vera Rubin infrastructure powered by SK hynix HBM4 memory.

And Hyundai Motor Group outlined a physical AI strategy anchored by a robot reference platform developed with NVIDIA, extending a buildout with 50,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs. The collaboration also includes the integration of NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion — an autonomous vehicle development platform combining NVIDIA DRIVE AGX in-vehicle computing running on the safety-certified NVIDIA DriveOS operating system — with HMG’s vehicle platforms.

NVIDIA Deepens Collaboration With Top Korea Universities

NVIDIA and KAIST’s Department of Mechanical Engineering are planning an NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC) for collaborative research, talent development and knowledge exchange in physical AI — including projects that tap into NVIDIA Nemotron open models. 

This is in addition to the NVIDIA-KAIST joint research lab for agentic AI at the KAIST Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI in Seoul — built for the Korean language and local industry, backed by a multiyear commitment to fund and train Korean researchers.

NVIDIA and Seoul National University are also planning an NVAITC covering AI research, talent development and education — spanning foundation models, accelerated computing, physical AI and AI for science, with potential cooperation on AI infrastructure. This will include work harnessing NVIDIA Nemotron and NVIDIA Cosmos open world foundation models.

Huang and President Lee Meet to Discuss Future of AI 🔗

President Lee met with Huang Friday at the Fairmont San Francisco ahead of the AI Summit to discuss deepening the partnership behind Korea’s national AI ambitions.

President Lee opened by noting he’d seen reports of Huang eating beer and fried chicken in Seoul — and that he’d hoped to join. 

Huang said the enthusiasm he felt across Korea during the visit, “from the fried chicken restaurant to the Korean barbecue restaurant, was incredible. Everyone in Korea loves AI.”

The meeting was substantive. President Lee outlined South Korea’s vision to become a pivotal hub in the global AI supply chain — spanning semiconductor manufacturing, AI infrastructure deployment and industrial integration.

Huang noted that NVIDIA and Korea have been partners for over 25 years — from PC gaming to the AI revolution — and committed to deepening that partnership across AI infrastructure, semiconductors, physical AI and research.

“From AI chips and physical AI to AI infrastructure, Korea has achieved remarkable results under your leadership over the past year,” Huang said. “This is truly the beginning of a golden age for Korea.”

President Lee’s response: “I hope this is only the beginning.”

Korea’s AI Moment: Tech Titans Convene to Build a Full-Stack Future 🔗

The sheer gravity of the global AI boom was displayed Friday on stage at the Midway, a premier event venue in San Francisco. The city’s Dogpatch neighborhood has never been so well dressed. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung laid out a bold vision: South Korea isn’t merely going to participate in the AI revolution. It’s aiming to be one of its key engines.

The gathering was a high-stakes meeting of global compute leadership. Moderated by Stanford University’s Soh Kim, the stage brought together an eye-popping lineup of tech leaders. Sharing the floor with President Lee: NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Broadcom’s Hock Tan and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei.

Joining them was South Korea’s industrial vanguard — Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung and NAVER founder Hae-jin Lee.

President Lee opened with his “San Francisco AI Declaration,” drawing a line from the city’s rebirth after the 1906 earthquake to Korea’s post-war rise into an IT powerhouse. He pitched a multitrillion-dollar push into AI semiconductors, hyperscale data centers and physical AI, comparing the emergence of artificial intelligence to “humanity discovering fire anew.” He framed Korea’s ambition around compute infrastructure, education and public services designed to spread AI’s benefits broadly. 

Huang matched the moment. Looking back over a 25-year partnership, from seeding Korea’s gaming culture to the memory chips that make modern AI run, he put it simply: “If not for the invention of HBM memory in Korea, NVIDIA wouldn’t have been able to invent the supercomputers that power AI today.

“This really is the golden age for Korea,” he added. 

SK Group’s Chey Tae-won gave the room a sense of what the demand actually looks like at this scale. Every time he has dinner with Huang, Chey said, Huang tells him “more chips” … and he predicted that whatever number Huang had quoted that day, he’d ask for more the next time they met. 

Altman didn’t dress it up: “There really would not have been what we have, this incredible AI revolution, without Korea.” 

Amodei said Korea plays a role “throughout the stack, from semiconductors to infrastructure to an incredible concentration of talent.”

The message out of the Midway was clear. The AI era isn’t just being built in Silicon Valley. Korea is helping build it.

NVIDIA and SK Celebrate Longstanding Collaboration Over Dinner 🔗

On the eve of the summit, Huang, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and the SK hynix, SK Telecom and NVIDIA teams gathered for dinner in Woodside, California. It was a warm welcome to Silicon Valley on a warm summer evening for the Korean business leaders. 

NVIDIA and SK — which have had a longstanding partnership — announced in June an expanded collaboration to codevelop memory for NVIDIA platforms spanning AI infrastructure, personal AI and physical AI. 

Also in June, SK Telecom announced plans to build AI infrastructure to power Korea’s innovation in physical AI, robotics and more.

I started my review period with the pricier, new Liberty 5 Pro Max, but I’ve been using both Pro models interchangeably. Both new cases’ lids slide up like the Liberty 5, and now they have external “smart displays.” Though the dimensions of both new Pro models are similar, the Pro Max is taller and brighter, thanks to its 1.78-inch AMOLED smart display (the Pro’s is .96 inches).

Both displays are responsive and easy to read in direct sunlight. The Pro Max allows you to upload wallpaper, both stills and animations, which display on the screen when it’s awake. Using the case, swiping left or right lets you control ANC modes, EQ, and playback. Swiping up from the bottom gives you access to all the apps, and swiping down from the top brings up quick-access shortcuts for various settings. All of that without pulling out your phone.

The only downside is that while the case is pocketable for a 6 ’ 215lb man like me (it fits in my pants coin pocket), it will be large for others with smaller frames when you compare it to the Pixel Buds or Galaxy Buds 3 Pro cases (see comparison in the gallery above).

This year, the new Liberty 5 Pro models have been redesigned so they’re no longer stem-style earbuds; instead, they have an earbud with a “surfboard” sitting over the backside. And, like some surfboards, the new models have rear fins which come in three different sizes, including the one already installed.

The fins, along with plenty of eartip options, made it easy to get the right fit. And it’s a locked-in fit that feels as secure as my favorite gym earbuds, the Powerbeats Fit!

When placing the earbuds in my ears, the idea is to twist slightly to get the earfins to lock in. Not doing that, they have a looser fit, but they still feel quite secure, and that’s how I’ve worn them most of the time. For the gym, I just twist and lock in, and they’re great!

Larian Studios has reiterated that it is fully, 100%, without a doubt, donezo in the bunzo when it comes to new Baldur’s Gate-related projects. It’s latest statement was in response to a Dark Horse comics announcement that could have been interpreted as implying the studio’s involvement.

How to choose a red light face mask: Look at wavelength first

There are some ways to tell that a red light face mask won’t be effective before you buy it and use it for a few months.

Wavelength is the first factor anyone will tell you to consider. You want to find products that emit light within the therapeutic window, or the range of wavelengths that can be effective when treating common skin conditions. There is now an abundance of evidence that specific wavelengths of red light can be effective for:

  • Reduction of fine lines, dark circles, and crow’s feet

  • Improving skin texture

  • Fighting wrinkles

  • Boosting collagen production

  • Reducing inflammation and redness

To be effective, the light coming from the mask must penetrate different layers of your skin. There are optimal wavelengths for each type of light a face mask emits, and any reputable brand will put their mask’s wavelengths front and center in the listing. These carefully chosen ranges are strong enough to penetrate your skin, but gentle enough to avoid over-activating delicate face skin.

Red light does its work in the middle layer (dermis) of your skin, requiring wavelengths between 630 and 633 nm to reach past the top layer. There, red light stimulates cells to produce rejuvenating proteins like collagen and elastin, evening out surface redness, and preventing scarring or post-pimple red spots.

Most red light masks also use near-infrared red light therapy, which requires longer wavelengths to travel further than regular red light. Near-infrared light between 830 and 850 nm reaches into tissue under the dermis to further stimulate cell turnover, firm skin, and heal deep-seated spots or stubborn dark circles.

What about blue light therapy?

Blue light is often used to target acne, and some of the best red light masks use a combination of blue and red light therapy.

Blue light operates on the top layer (epidermis) of your skin, so its ideal wavelength is shorter than either red light standard. Blue light at 415nm has an antimicrobial effect, ideally killing the bacteria that cause acne before a breakout starts. If hellbent bacterial acne makes it past the blue light phase — or if you’re also dealing with hormonal or cystic acne not caused by bacteria — red light swoops in to neutralize inflammation and speed up the healing process.

The thing is, most mainstream LED face masks hit those wavelength marks. So, how do you choose between masks if their wavelength numbers are all the same?

The importance of irradiance

Irradiance is another major element that determines whether or not a red light mask actually works. While wavelength refers to the length the light can travel, irradiance refers to the amount of light energy that’s actually reaching your skin per session (not just the intensity of light being generated at the bulb). If wavelength numbers are correct but irradiance is low, the mask will still be kind of a dud.

Comfort is another key factor, as consistent use is key to results.

Irradiance is officially expressed as milliwatts per square centimeter. The optimal irradiance range for a red light face mask is pretty wide (anywhere between 30 and 100 mW/cm²), though many brands don’t directly provide that number.

Most brands do note the length of each session, which is one way to quickly gauge irradiance without getting into calculations. Dr. Mamina Turegano sums it up best on her YouTube account: “Higher irradiance means more effective energy delivery per minute of use.” Longer sessions don’t automatically mean that results will be more powerful — a mask with sessions that last for less than 10 minutes has higher irradiance than a mask with sessions that last for 20 to 30 minutes. Since a mask with lower irradiance needs to sit on your face for longer, you might be less likely to keep up with wearing it.

Are bulb count and bulb placement a big deal?

The number of bulbs and the placement of bulbs inside the mask can also impact efficacy, especially if you’re expecting results on a specific area of your face. Masks with more bulbs packed evenly across the face will provide more even coverage across every inch of your face than masks with more sporadically-placed bulbs.

Some masks also provide more light sources overall by emitting both red and blue light simultaneously from every single bulb, like the Shark CryoGlow. This would be a better option for full-face acne prevention than masks with blue and red LEDs only concentrated in certain spots, like the Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite.

Electrolyte powders, dissolvable tablets, and trendy ready-to-drink waters have graduated from the pockets of athletes to one of wellness’s buzziest categories.

And it’s a crowded market, worth an estimated $39 billion globally in 2025 and forecast to double within the next decade. Much of the growth has been fueled by wellness trends and influencer-fronted hype cycles, like Prime Hydration, created by YouTubers Logan Paul and KSI, which the company claimed pushed past $1 billion in sales in a single year. In other internet corners, dozens of celebrity and podcaster-adjacent brands are all promising a means of optimizing your way to hydration.

These products are marketed as daily essentials for everyone—from office workers to gym regulars—promising to combat brain fog, improve skin, banish fatigue, and aid recovery. Here’s everything you need to know about the electrolyte obsession, and when these products are actually worth buying.

What Are Electrolytes?

Electrolytes are essential minerals, among them sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and chloride, that carry an electrical charge once dissolved in fluid. That charge is what lets the body do much of its basic work, such as helping muscles and nerves work correctly. They work to ensure fluid stays balanced inside and outside every cell, as a serious imbalance can cause headaches, muscle cramps, dizziness, fatigue, and weakness. In more serious cases, severe electrolyte imbalances can interfere with heart function and require medical treatment.

Who Needs Electrolytes?

For most healthy adults, the body has been regulating electrolyte levels perfectly well long before trendy, flavored hydration sticks landed on supermarket shelves. In fact, if you eat a reasonably balanced diet and drink water when you’re thirsty, there’s a good chance you’re already getting everything you need.

The sachet earns its place in roughly three situations. Studies from the American College of Sports Medicine suggest that water alone is sufficient for exercise lasting less than an hour, but electrolytes become increasingly useful during longer sessions of prolonged, sweat-heavy exercise, particularly in high temperatures or humidity. They’re also useful for illness involving heavy fluid loss, which is why oral rehydration salts are a recognized medical treatment rather than a wellness trend. And you should also consider them during long stretches of fasting, when the food that usually supplies these minerals is absent.

Are There Natural Electrolytes?

There are many sources of electrolytes in everyday foods. If you’re eating a reasonably varied diet (fruits, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, nuts, seeds), your electrolyte stores are continually being topped up without the need for specialist drinks or powders.

Research by the Beverage Hydration Index shows that milk-based drinks can maintain hydration for longer than plain water. Can You Have Too Many Electrolytes?

For healthy adults, an occasional electrolyte drink is unlikely to cause harm. Daily consumption, however, can sometimes be counterproductive.

Many electrolyte products contain significant amounts of sodium, despite the fact that most populations already consume considerably more salt than recommended. The World Health Organization estimates the global average of sodium intake a day is more than double its recommended limit and roughly 1.89 million deaths a year can be linked to excess intake. Regularly adding extra sodium may not be ideal for anyone managing high blood pressure or cardiovascular risk. Some formulations also contain substantial amounts of added sugar, making them nutritionally closer to soft drinks than health products.

Anyone recovering from illness or sweating through an August shift outdoors has a fair case for supplementing. For everyone else, the best approach to hydration remains an unremarkable one. Electrolytes themselves are nonnegotiable. Electrolyte products are mostly just a lifestyle purchase.

Battlefield Vietnam may be the obvious point of comparison, but as PC Gamer gunner Morgan Park pointed out, Hell Let Loose is more of a hardcore milsim. The Steam page reflects that as well, emphasizing the need for teamwork and tactics, and the game’s focus on historical accuracy.
