Today we’re excited to announce our new line of custom Linux PCs powered by Ubuntu. Though we have shipped Ubunutu based workstations in the past for special projects and customer requests, this is the first time in our 25-year history that we’ve offered a full line of non-Windows based systems. It’s the culmination of several months of hardware testing and validation of select components on the Ubuntu platform. It’s been labor intensive, but it’s the only way to ensure complete component compatibility and create the best customer experience possible.

As a teenager, Jort Heijen first started building guitars with his dad in their garage. At first, they stripped old guitars and replaced parts on them, buying and selling along the way. But they became curious about building the guitar body itself. From then on, Heijen was constantly building and making guitars, all by hand.

Working in bicycle repair and sales at a store in the Netherlands, Heijen realized it wasn’t exactly what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Building guitars was his passion. So, at the age of 24, he quit his job, sold his car, and moved to Amsterdam where he enrolled in Hout- en Meubileringscollege, a four-year vocational school devoted to woodworking and furniture building.

While in school, Heijen began learning AutoCAD, especially after he purchased his first CNC machine to cut out the wood for his guitar designs. After working by hand for many years, AutoCAD brought entirely new possibilities.

Growing Red Layer Guitars

On average, Heijen designs and handcrafts about 10 guitars per year. He officially started his business, Red Layer Guitars, seven years ago after graduating from university. Over the years, Heijen has grown the business from his very first sale all the way to showcasing his guitars internationally, including the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) conference. Customers range from enthusiasts to studio musicians and even his favorite guitarist, Fredrik Thordendal.

Heijen is also starting to experiment with acrylics and aluminum that he hasn’t seen in guitar designs before. With AutoCAD, he has the freedom to explore. “Once it’s set in an AutoCAD file, it is possible. It can be made. That’s pretty much how I see it,” he says.

I have a multi-targeted solution which fails to rebuild consistently and keeps reporting the error

Error NETSDK1005 Assets file ‘ …\obj\project.assets.json’ doesn’t
have a target for ‘net4.8’. Ensure that restore has run and
that you have included ‘net4.8’ in the TargetFrameworks for your
project.

Occasionally a second rebuild will work, but not always.
Building the projects individually always works but that is tedious.

An absolutely minimal project which contains two projects also exhibits the same problem.

Hope Coloring Binder (Christian Devotions for Women)

As a single mom who has been homeless, abandoned and divorced after 14 years of marriage (him going off and having 6 affairs and multiple children with multiple women), physically abused by my mom growing up and by my ex-husband, and countless other things I’ve dealt with in my life, I of all people know how important hope is.

Without hope, I wouldn’t have gotten through all that. Without Christ, I would just be another statistic instead of the thriving woman I am today. Someone who is greatly blessed, has her kids, and a world to serve, and lives an affluent life (I make $2.7 million dollars a year, believe it or not). God is very good to me.

You take someone who went from being homeless to making so much money now, someone beaten and abused to an innovative leader in her niche, and you’ll find someone with GREAT HOPE!

The source of that hope is none other than Jesus Christ.

A $20 Chromecast with Google TV is perfect for this one reason

Normally, I would never recommend that someone buy a streaming device that tops out at 1080p resolution. Even if you somehow don’t have a 4K TV already — I’m not judging, there are plenty of good reasons — you might well have one in the future. And at that point, it’s better to not have to buy new hardware until absolutely necessary. Just go ahead and spend the extra $30 now for a 4K version.

But it’s hard to say no to a $20 Chromecast with Google TV HD.

I wouldn’t use this on my main television. When it comes to the TV I’ll be watching most — whether that’s in the living room, or the bedroom, or wherever — I think it’s worth spending a few extra bucks to get the best streaming device you can afford. Not that everything you ever watch will be available in 4K resolution. And there’s an argument to be made that maybe you won’t even notice the difference. (We’ve long said that a good 1080p stream is better than a bad 4K stream.)

If there’s a single use case that makes sense for a $20 streaming device, it’s this: Put it in your travel bag, and leave it there. Do not take it out when you return home. This is your on-the-go streaming device, and it shall never be more than that.

I’m on the road a fair amount. Whether it’s long distances for work (and fortunately, that’s not as often as it used to be), or shorter regional trips for the kids’ soccer tournaments, I’ve lived out of a bag plenty. The novelty wears off pretty quickly, especially when it comes to the quality of the televisions in the hotel room. The little bit of normalcy that comes with being able to watch your channels on your streaming service of choice goes a long way.

In fact, Chromecast With Google TV (the full 4K version) has lived in my go-bag for a long time. There are a few reasons for that. One is that it’s small. The dongle, remote, and charger don’t take up much space at all. (Kudos to whomever opted for a plug whose prongs fold into the body of the power supply.)

The second reason — and perhaps the most important — is that it doesn’t cost a lot of money. It’s about one-third the cost of my at-home platform of choice, the Apple TV 4K. And the trade-off of not having 4K for a few hours in a hotel is one I’m willing to make. Eventually I’m going to be in a rush to check out and will accidentally leave the Chromecast attached to the hotel-room TV. It hasn’t happened yet, knock on wood. But if and when it does, I’ll only be out $50.

Or, if you take advantage of this $20 Chromecast sale, you’ll only be out a couple Hamiltons.
