Wildermyth will conclude with its final expansion, Omenroad

Wildermyth is an incredible procedurally generated RPG that leads players through a series of narrative quests. As you build bases, battle foes, and learn more about the world, you’re able to build up your cast with new decisions and sacrifices. A hero might die, marry another party member and have children, or turn into an increasingly feral beast. It’s a tremendously cozy, satisfying RPG experience.

Wildermyth has a core campaign, and additional adventurers that introduce new stories and new enemy factions. The game’s first DLC pack was focused around new cosmetic skins and armors for heroes, whereas the upcoming Omenroad expansion includes a roguelike-style challenge mode and a new story campaign called Walk in the Unlight. While Omenroad brings lots of new bosses and challenging fights, it also represents an end to development for Wildermyth. Worldwalker Games announced the conclusion on May 29 on the game’s official X account.

“We will continue to support the game and fix critical bugs, but don’t expect new content going forward,” co-owner Nate Austin wrote. “We will be saying farewell to many of our team members. Worldwalker Games is going into hibernation for now.”

Austin clarifies that the team still intends to port Wildermyth to other platforms, and the hibernation does not affect that “in any way.” He also commits to continuing a Kickstarter that will record the game’s music live and integrate it into the game, French and Spanish translations for Omenroad, and to maintain the game’s Discord, wiki, support email, merch store, and social media.

Wildermyth has been wonderful, but nothing goes on forever,” wrote Austin. “We wanted to ship Omenroad, and having done that, we’re ready to move on. This was the plan, and it doesn’t have anything to do with how well Omenroad is doing. (It’s doing well! We’re extremely proud of it.)”

He added, “I’m pretty sure we’ll eventually find something else to pour our passion into, and we’ll let you know about it when the time comes.”

It’s sad to see an end to Wildermyth, which has become one of my staples when I want to play a narrative RPG adventure. But it’s also a tremendous game, and it’s good to see the studio end on a high note and walk away from the project of their own choice. While we may never see another title from the Worldwalker team, I’ll treasure Wildermyth and the stories it effortlessly spins for years to come.

What is the difference between Raid 0, Raid 1, Raid 5 and Raid 6?

  • RAID 0 (Striping): Data is stored evenly across the number of disks in the array. This process is called disk striping and involves splitting data into blocks and writing it simultaneously/sequentially on multiple disks. It provides improved performance but no redundancy
  • RAID 1 (Mirroring): Data is duplicated and stored on each drive. This process is called mirroring, and it ensures you won’t lose your files if a drive fails. It provides redundancy but no performance gain
  • RAID 5: Uses disk striping with parity. It sets aside “one drive’s worth” of disk space for parity data. RAID 5 requires fewer hard drives but can provide protection against a single drive failure
  • RAID 6: Similar to RAID 5 but introduces dual parity. It sets aside “two drives’ worth” of disk space for parity data. RAID 6 can provide protection against two simultaneous drive failures

What is the best storage system for storage on the go?

  • Definition: Portable rugged SSD drives are high-capacity, high-speed storage devices that are designed to withstand harsh conditions.
  • Use Cases: Ideal for outdoor use, travel, and situations where data might be exposed to rough handling or environmental hazards.
  • Advantages: They offer the speed of SSDs, combined with a design that is resistant to shock, dust, and water.
  • We can help you find the perfect drive for your on-the-go needs, whether it’s waterproof, dust proof, shock proof or all of the above

.net – Can’t distribute MAUI iOS App to app store VS2022 The “CompileAppManifest” task was not given a value for the required parameter “DefaultSdkVersion”

We have written an MAUI App in VS2022 Windows (.NET 8) – it complies, works fine on iOS and Android simulators. It has deployed successfully to the Google Play store. But we cannot get it to deploy to the iOS store. The app bundle is created successfully, but at the point where we try to deploy it we get the error:

**Could not create ipa file for distribution of the archive ” The “CompileAppManifest” task was not given a value for the required parameter “DefaultSDKVersion”.
**

enter image description here

I believe this issue is relating to a problem with the project editor. Under iOS -> Build -> SDK version, the dropdown list is EMPTY, so I cannot choose an SDK version.

enter image description here

Manually adding the key to the appropriate makes no difference.

enter image description here

Can anyone please help resolve this issue?
Thank you

We have tried:

  1. Cleaning and rebuilding the app
  2. Deleting the Obj and Bin folders and rebuilding
  3. Disconnecting and reconnecting to the iMac used for building
  4. Various configuration tweaks.

We expect things to work as described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/maui/ios/deployment/publish-app-store?view=net-maui-8.0&tabs=vs

None of the suggestions at: The “CompileAppManifest” task was not given a value for the required parameter “DefaultSdkVersion” have resolved the issue.

We are running the latest version of xCode on the build iMac, and the latest (non preview) version of Vs2022.

Zotac Teases Yet Another Gaming Handheld

The success of the Steam Deck has unleashed a torrent of handheld gaming PCs on the world, some offering even better performance than Valve’s device. Gaming hardware maker Zotac has been quiet on the handheld front, but it’s now teasing its upcoming Zone portable game machine. We don’t have many details yet, but Zotac does confirm the Zone will feature an OLED display and advanced triggers.

Since the Steam Deck ignited interest in handheld PC gaming, Asus, Lenovo, and MSI have all released their own versions. These devices run Windows with low-power x86 processors like the AMD Z1 Extreme, which can run most modern games at low or medium settings. Battery life isn’t usually great, but Asus is reportedly addressing that with the upgraded Ally X. Zotac may not have intended to spill the beans yet, but its German press release mentioned an AMD APU. The English version omitted this detail.

Zotac’s blog post does note that the handheld will have “2-stage adjustable triggers.” This suggests something similar to the Sony DualSense, which can create a first and second stop in the trigger for enhanced functionality. It’s managed at the game level, though, and Zotac’s device would need to include mapping software to let gamers control the triggers manually.

The centerpiece of the Zone will no doubt be the 7-inch OLED screen. It will have multitouch support and a “high refresh.” Valve recently updated the Steam Deck with an OLED screen, but most of the competition still uses cheaper LCD panels. Zotac didn’t mention anything about the resolution or brightness of its OLED.

Zotac has traditionally offered a more budget-friendly selection of gaming hardware. With the ever-increasing price of gaming hardware, that’s appreciated even if the build quality and aesthetic suffer. That said, what we’ve seen of the Zone looks fine—it has the typical handheld shape with oversized triggers and an LED light strip on the back.

The company says it will have working Zone prototypes available at Computex next week. Attendees can play games on the Zone demo units, so development must be well underway. Zotac hasn’t offered any details on price or availability. Given the other current handhelds, we’re probably looking at somewhere between $500 and $1,000 for the Zone. However, this market is getting crowded and competitive, so the company would be wise to move toward release quickly.

9 Irony Examples on Page and Screen

A fascinating aspect of the human experience, irony can be likened to a twist of fate, an unexpected detour, a curve ball, a plot twist, a Catch-22, or a paradox. Most people know irony when they see it, but it helps to have irony examples to put words to the literary device.

Irony occurs when something deviates from what is expected, but this term is very commonly misused and misunderstood.

In this article, we’ll look at the three main types of irony, as well as irony examples in film, literature, and real life to help you incorporate it into your own writing

It can be difficult to determine whether or not something is actually ironic or just bad luck. There are three main kinds of irony. Verbal irony, dramatic irony, and situational irony.

Verbal irony

Verbal irony is a figure of speech where what is said is opposite to what is meant. This type of irony is often used rhetorically and can be used to convey humor, sarcasm, frustration, or anger. It relies heavily on context, tone, and delivery to signal the reader or listener that the speaker’s true intent is the opposite of what is presented.

Verbal irony examples

  • Understatement: Describing something as much smaller, less important, or valuable than it really is. Example: Saying, “It’s a little windy out” during a Category 5 hurricane
  • Litotes: A type of understatement that emphasizes a certain quality by negating the opposite. Example: “The casserole is not bad”
  • Double entendre: When a phrase has a double meaning, often used to subtly share inappropriate jokes that younger readers or viewers will not understand but adult audiences will find amusing. Example: Saying “You look so hot” to someone who is sweating

Dramatic irony

Dramatic irony occurs when the audience knows something the characters do not. This form of irony creates tension, suspense, or humor to engage the audience and add depth to the story.

Dramatic irony examples

  • Tragic irony: When the audience knows that something bad is going to happen to the character while they remain unaware. Example: The audience sees a dangerous criminal go down an alley and the character walks the same way without seeing them
  • Comic irony: When what the audience knows but the character does not lead to something amusing. Example: In the show Jury Duty, a cast of actors set up a fake trial, judge, and jury. One juror, Ronald, is the only one who is not an actor and thinks it is a real trial

Situational irony

The most common type of irony is situational irony. With situational irony, what happens is the opposite of what is expected. These ironic plot twists create amusement, surprise, or tragic twists of fate.

Examples of situational irony

  • Karma/Poetic justice: When a character unexpectedly receives a fitting consequence. Example: When the wicked prison warden in The Shawshank Redemption is outed for his financial crimes by the falsely imprisoned and recently escaped Andy Dufresne
  • Fateful twist: Something that happens by chance in a strange, interesting, or unfortunate way. Example: The inventor of the Segway actually died in a Segway accident
  • Role reversal: When a character finds themselves in a role opposite to what is expected Example: In Dreamwork’s Megamind, the evil Megamind created a new superhero, Titan, so he would have someone to challenge him, but Titan turned evil and Megamind had to become the good guy to defeat him and save the city
A fascinating aspect of the human experience, irony can be likened to a twist of fate, an unexpected detour, a curve ball, a plot twist, a Catch-22, or a paradox. Most people know irony when they see it, but it helps to have irony examples to put words to the literary device.

Irony examples in film and literature

*spoiler alerts!*

The Twilight Zone S1 E8: Time Enough at Last

In this episode of The Twilight Zone (my personal favorite), a bank teller who wants nothing except time to read in peace accidentally escapes a nuclear war in the bank vault and emerges into an empty world. All that is left standing is the public library with enough books and canned food to last him a lifetime. Just as he settles in for a peaceful life of reading, he bends over to pick up his first novel, his glasses fall off his face and shatter. He now, ironically, has all the time in the world but can never read again. This is situational irony.

Harry Potter

There are many instances of irony throughout the Harry Potter series. Harry believes for so long that he must kill Voldemort to save himself and the wizarding world only to find out that he is the final horcrux and must let Voldemort kill him instead. Ironically, Lord Voldemort does not know that in trying to kill Harry as a baby he turned him into the seventh horcrux and that him now killing Harry will ultimately lead to his demise. This is dramatic irony.

Mean Girls

Mean Girls meme I love your skirt, an example of verbal irony

Regina: Oh my god, I love your skirt! Where did you get it?

Lea: It was my mom’s in the 80s!

Regina: Vintage, so adorable.

Lea: Thanks

(Lea leaves)

Regina: (Turns to Cady) That is the ugliest effing skirt I’ve ever seen.

This is verbal irony.

Les Misérables

When Jean Valjean breaks parole, he is taken in for the night by a humble bishop who gives him food and shelter. While the bishop sleeps, Valjean steals his precious silver candle sticks and flees. Valjean is apprehended and brought back to the bishop’s home, expecting punishment for his crime. The bishop tells the officers there has been a mistake and that he had given Valjean the candle sticks as a gift. The kind bishop tells Valjean to take this gift and use it to become an honest man. This is situational irony

Seinfeld S6 E7: The Soup

George: “I feel like my old self again. Totally inadequate, completely insecure, paranoid, neurotic… It’s a pleasure.” This is verbal irony.

Tuck Everlasting

The Tuck family accidentally becomes immortal by drinking water from a spring in Treegap, New Hampshire. Over the years a man in a yellow suit catches on to their disposition and wants the power of immortality for himself and to sell it to make a fortune. He tirelessly pursues the Tucks to find the source of the spring and ironically is killed in his quest for immortality. This is situational irony.

The Truman Show

Truman Burbank lives an idyllic life in an idyllic city. Ironically, he is the only one unaware that he is the star of a reality TV show. Everyone he knows is an actor and the city is actually a set on a sound stage. This is dramatic irony

Shrek

Can I stay with you? GifCan I stay with you? Gif

Donkey: Can I stay with you please?

Shrek: Of course!

Donkey: Really?

Shrek: No

This is verbal irony.

Frozen

Olaf the snowman’s favorite season is summer. This is situational irony.

Real-life irony examples

  • The “unsinkable” Titanic sank on its first voyage
  • Just as the Titanic ignored warnings and sank, over a century later the OceanGate submersible Titan, on its way to the wreckage site, ignored warnings and met the same fate
  • Most of the irony examples in Alanis Morrissette’s song “Ironic” aren’t actually ironic
  • Doctors promoted cigarettes up until the mid-late 20th century
  • Fast and Furious star Paul Walker died in a car crash
  • A fire station burning down
  • A police station being robbed
  • An out-of-shape personal trainer
  • A dentist with cavities
  • A pilot who is afraid of heights

Irony can elevate your writing by creating layers of complexity that can provoke emotional and intellectual responses from your audience.

Adding irony examples into your writing can not only infuse your stories with humor and suspense, but also shed light on the injustice, absurdity, and hypocrisy of the world around us.

OpenAI board first learned about ChatGPT from Twitter, according to former member

Helen Toner, former OpenAI board member, speaks onstage during Vox Media's 2023 Code Conference at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel on September 27, 2023.
Enlarge / Helen Toner, former OpenAI board member, speaks during Vox Media’s 2023 Code Conference at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel on September 27, 2023.

In a recent interview on “The Ted AI Show” podcast, former OpenAI board member Helen Toner said the OpenAI board was unaware of the existence of ChatGPT until they saw it on Twitter. She also revealed details about the company’s internal dynamics and the events surrounding CEO Sam Altman’s surprise firing and subsequent rehiring last November.

OpenAI released ChatGPT publicly on November 30, 2022, and its massive surprise popularity set OpenAI on a new trajectory, shifting focus from being an AI research lab to a more consumer-facing tech company.

“When ChatGPT came out in November 2022, the board was not informed in advance about that. We learned about ChatGPT on Twitter,” Toner said on the podcast.

Toner’s revelation about ChatGPT seems to highlight a significant disconnect between the board and the company’s day-to-day operations, bringing new light to accusations that Altman was “not consistently candid in his communications with the board” upon his firing on November 17, 2023. Altman and OpenAI’s new board later said that the CEO’s mismanagement of attempts to remove Toner from the OpenAI board following her criticism of the company’s release of ChatGPT played a key role in Altman’s firing.

“Sam didn’t inform the board that he owned the OpenAI startup fund, even though he constantly was claiming to be an independent board member with no financial interest in the company on multiple occasions,” she said. “He gave us inaccurate information about the small number of formal safety processes that the company did have in place, meaning that it was basically impossible for the board to know how well those safety processes were working or what might need to change.”

Toner also shed light on the circumstances that led to Altman’s temporary ousting. She mentioned that two OpenAI executives had reported instances of “psychological abuse” to the board, providing screenshots and documentation to support their claims. The allegations made by the former OpenAI executives, as relayed by Toner, suggest that Altman’s leadership style fostered a “toxic atmosphere” at the company:

In October of last year, we had this series of conversations with these executives, where the two of them suddenly started telling us about their own experiences with Sam, which they hadn’t felt comfortable sharing before, but telling us how they couldn’t trust him, about the toxic atmosphere it was creating. They use the phrase “psychological abuse,” telling us they didn’t think he was the right person to lead the company, telling us they had no belief that he could or would change, there’s no point in giving him feedback, no point in trying to work through these issues.

Despite the board’s decision to fire Altman, Altman began the process of returning to his position just five days later after a letter to the board signed by over 700 OpenAI employees. Toner attributed this swift comeback to employees who believed the company would collapse without him, saying they also feared retaliation from Altman if they did not support his return.

“The second thing I think is really important to know, that has really gone under reported is how scared people are to go against Sam,” Toner said. “They experienced him retaliate against people retaliating… for past instances of being critical.”

“They were really afraid of what might happen to them,” she continued. “So some employees started to say, you know, wait, I don’t want the company to fall apart. Like, let’s bring back Sam. It was very hard for those people who had had terrible experiences to actually say that… if Sam did stay in power, as he ultimately did, that would make their lives miserable.”

In response to Toner’s statements, current OpenAI board chair Bret Taylor provided a statement to the podcast: “We are disappointed that Miss Toner continues to revisit these issues… The review concluded that the prior board’s decision was not based on concerns regarding product safety or security, the pace of development, OpenAI’s finances, or its statements to investors, customers, or business partners.”

Even given that review, Toner’s main argument is that OpenAI hasn’t been able to police itself despite claims to the contrary. “The OpenAI saga shows that trying to do good and regulating yourself isn’t enough,” she said.

Best gaming PC build for CS2 in 2024

Counter-strike has been one of the most popular esports titles for years now, spanning back to the turn of the millennia when the original was born. Fast forward more than 20 years and Counter-Strike is still one of the biggest games around, with the latest iteration being CS2 (an upgrade to CSGO), turning over millions in prize money and filling stadiums as it goes.

Thanks to the current climate, an increasing number of individuals are taking up CS2 and computer gaming as a hobby. Whilst this is great for gaming, it leaves less knowledgeable people in a bit of a pickle on what components to buy.

Luckily, here at WePC, we’ve had years of experience building PCs (and playing Counter-Strike), so we know a thing or two when it comes to getting the most for your money. For that reason, we’ve decided to put this comprehensive guide to the best custom build PC for CS2 together. That way, you don’t have to go through the stress of testing, reviewing, and deciding which components are best for the job – we’ve already done it for you!

Before we go into what this build is capable of, perhaps it’s a good idea to take a quick look at the CS2 PC requirements. Over there, you’ll find that the game isn’t demanding to run at all – it’s a highly-optimized esports title that aims to cater to as many players as possible.

What You Get For Your Money

When it came to the CS2 build, we decided to choose a budget that was around $1000. Whilst many may feel this is a little too much – and they may have a case – having a slightly bigger budget allows you to increase the gaming experience exponentially. CS2 is by far one of the most competitive games out there, if you decide that you want to take on the competitive scene, this build is going to provide you with the performance you need to do so.

Performance

That leads us nicely onto the performance. So, with the components we’ve put together, you’ll easily be driving over 200FPS in CS2 – max settings. Now, once again, to some that might seem a little overkill. Why would you need over 150FPS? Well, when it comes to competitive gaming, gamers try to get the edge over their competition any way they can. That being said, if you can drive the frame rates required to properly utilize a 240hz monitor, you’ll be certainly getting the edge over users playing on lesser quality displays.

Also, because CS2 isn’t an overly intensive game, you’re able to ramp up the performance by increasing the build budget by only a few hundred dollars. That means you’re getting extremely good value for money for the components we’re choosing. Ultimately, it was a no-brainer for us.

How We Choose

We have more than enough experience building computers, with years in the business. Giving advice out to our readers, as well as friends and family, comes naturally at this point. We carefully research all of our recommended builds – whether it’s for a specific budget or targeting a particular game like CS2.

Here at WePC, we have years of experience building computers and giving advice to friends, families, and our readers. All of our build recommendations have been carefully researched, benchmarked in full, and, most importantly, are built with budget and performance in mind. We work tirelessly to ensure our builds are up to date, efficient, and offer high performance across both gaming and workflow scenarios.

We don’t just use our own personal knowledge and experience, we also keep up to date with the latest tech in our industry and use various benchmarks to allow us to quickly compare multiple components to ensure the best is always recommended. We like to keep an eye on our builds on a regular basis – monitoring price levels, system requirements for games, and more.

How We Test

With a vast amount of experience building our own gaming PCs (and PCs for work) from scratch, it’s easy for us to recommend parts which work well together and fit into the case of choice without a problem.

PCs that we build are used for a number of things – from general daily work to jumping into the latest AAA games on the market. We run benchmarks while testing to fully understand how well our builds perform, making sure to keep an eye on the temperature of components.

We tested our AMD builds against their Intel counterparts and found that these CPUs performed to a higher standard in most situations – and for a lower price. This is why we recommend an AMD build right now for playing games like CS2.

The last thing to touch on is overclocking. We’ve noticed that many of our readers enjoy overclocking their PCs, which means we test that as well. That means you can push these rigs beyond their usual capacity. However, we have to disclaim that you need to know how to overclock before trying to push this build to the limit.

How to Preview Projects Pre-Construction with 3D Flythrough & Walkthrough Services

Breakthroughs and revolutionary innovations are finding their way into the real estate industry. Most are expected to change how properties are listed and sold. One technology that has been gaining traction among real estate companies and professionals is 3D walkthroughs and flythroughs. Thanks to these tools, it’s now possible to showcase an accurate representation of a house, building, and other projects in a complete 360-degree view. And the best thing is that you can do all of these things without leaving the comfort of your chair.

If this is your first time hearing about this innovative technology or you still need to be convinced about trying it out, here’s a quick overview of 3D flythrough and walkthrough services and how these are used for previewing projects before the construction begins.

What are 3D flythrough and walkthrough services?

Architectural flythroughs and walkthroughs are 3D animations that depict what renovation or construction projects will look like upon completion. Because of these types of CGI, 3D flythrough design services within the design, real estate, and architecture fields can already showcase their vision of concepts yet to be realized.

As a result, this will help them secure construction funding, private and public contracts, and successful presales. 3D artists create these 3D flythroughs and walkthrough videos using specialized software such as Cinema 4D and 3DS Max.

The difference between flythroughs and walkthroughs is quite simple. 3D walkthroughs are more about showcasing the design’s interior elements. 3D flythrough, on the other hand, offers a more complete overview of a building, with the surroundings and exterior included.

A 3D flythrough, for example, can start with approaching a structure from a distance and showing the surrounding neighborhood. It can also show the design’s outdoor elements like terraces, gardens, driveways, pools, etc. After these, the flythrough can move on to showcasing the interior to help viewers appreciate not only the architectural design but also to take in the overall atmosphere and ambiance of the space.

Although a 3D walkthrough is limited compared to it, it’s still equally valuable as a 3D flythrough, which will depend on the specific purpose of an architectural project. A 3D walkthrough is specifically handy for the presentation of concepts for apartment renovation when owners might already be more than familiar with the appearance of the building’s exterior.

There are more options to choose from

The sky is the limit regarding options in 3D walkthrough and flythrough services. Since the real estate industry depends a lot on visual appeal, the clever use of this technology can help you make more sales than you can imagine. These services allow you to take your prospective clients on an exciting journey where they can envision their future in a new house. These services can also help you showcase other properties, such as office spaces.

The best thing about this advanced technology is that it lets you add numerous realistic elements guaranteed to capture clients’ interest and make them crave more. For instance, you can add enticing details such as playgrounds, pools, home cinemas, or spa areas. You can also create a 3D flythrough of the neighborhood and nearby spaces. It will help you show clients precisely what and where they are investing in, letting you display a property or home in the best light possible to its fullest potential.

Jaw-dropping client presentations

Sweep clients off their feet with the help of 3D flythrough and walkthrough services. 3D aerial design services offer stunning aerial renders of space in 3D and clear visuals. The opportunity to virtually walk around the area and enjoy real-time removal or addition of elements will impress your clients. Consider giving your clients a copy of the design or a link to access it whenever possible. It will create a memorable experience, leading to more sales and a trusting relationship between you and your clients.

2D made better

While 2D continues to be an integral tool in the arsenal of real estate marketers, 3D flythrough and walkthrough services have taken the entire industry by storm. Not long ago, 2D drawings and floor plans were the only way to present a home or property. However, 2D drawings and floor plans can be challenging to understand, and 2D mock-ups can get confusing, especially for clients unfamiliar with this area. 2D models, unlike their 3D counterparts, also lack scope for correction, which further emphasizes the importance of 3D flythrough and walkthrough services.

Errors don’t have any room in 3D flythroughs and walkthroughs. One of the most significant benefits of using these technologies is that everyone can understand them. Visuals are detailed and impactful so that even the most novice clients without any experience in real estate can completely understand the critical concepts without any issues.

Cost-effective

Another key advantage of using 3D flythrough and walkthrough services is none other than their cost-effectiveness. You could even save more money with them in ways you probably didn’t even imagine. For starters, it eliminates the need to create mock-ups, paper models, and sketches. You don’t have to fiddle with paper; you only need your computer, laptop, or tablet for your presentation.

3D walkthrough and flythrough services are also more budget-friendly as they help lower the risk of human errors and the challenging process of going back and forth with the designs. Rather than fixing costly mistakes in the construction after they are completed, these concerns can be rectified virtually before starting construction, letting you save more money down the road.

Clear visualization of the neighborhood

As far as the world of real estate is concerned, the neighborhood or community surrounding a house is equally important to the property itself. It’s normal for clients to want a whole experience and to see and feel what living in a particular house would be like. You can add contextual elements such as people walking around, streets, trees, playgrounds, or a golf course. You can also showcase the neighborhood in various environments with different weather conditions, times of day, or seasons.

Remember that you don’t just sell a space but also a lifestyle in real estate. Buyers are often more interested in learning about the nearby infrastructure, the distance to other properties, and the appearance of the entire neighborhood after the construction is finished. The use of 3D walkthroughs and flythroughs will allow customers to get a complete understanding of their new investment and what it will look like.

Simplified design process

3D walkthrough and flythrough services are an ideal solution for anyone, whether they are tech-savvy or not or whatever their experience may be. Getting on the same page with a client can be challenging, especially during the earlier phases of the construction and design process. 3D flythroughs and 3D walkthrough technologies eliminate confusion since designs are transparent. The designers and clients can add elements, pitch various ideas, and make the necessary changes before implementing them.

Since the technology renders the designs impeccably, you can easily zoom out and in on various spaces to emphasize some elements you would have overlooked using traditional methods. For example, if your client disapproves of something, you can fix it without issues in less than 24 hours.

What You Should Know about Operational BI

At ScienceSoft, we consider operational BI as an evolutionary step of traditional BI. Traditionally, business intelligence was available to professional data analysts and top managers only, allowed producing monthly and weekly reports and served as grounds for strategic and tactical decisions.

However, gradually organizations realized the benefit of involving more employees in data-driven decision-making and having BI to support operational decisions. Thus, the era of operational business intelligence began several years ago. Let’s check whether the concept is still on the radars of companies looking for BI implementation.

Operational BI

Advantages that operational BI brings

We often see two main advantages that operational BI brings:

Providing real-time insights

Operational BI enables business users to quickly spot an emerged opportunity or a problem and react accordingly. This can be achieved with operational reports and dashboards (where the information is updated within a set time interval – say, every 10 minutes or every hour), as well as triggered alerts or messages. For example, line supervisors can get hourly production reports that will help them to reach their daily production targets.

Fostering a data-driven corporate culture

Operational BI is also unofficially called ‘BI for the masses’, as it enables the majority of business users – from the senior managers to frontline workers, such as call center agents and sales representatives, to get access to up-to-date data they need in their work. When employees are trained to turn to a robust BI tool for insights, they get used to being guided by data in their decisions and activities.

Challenges of implementing operational BI

And here are the typical challenges that we solve while implementing operational BI projects:

Ambiguous ‘real-time’

The term ‘real-time’ covers a wide time range – from milliseconds to hours, so a company’s departments should be as explicit as possible about their expectations of real time. Otherwise, the odds are high that an implemented BI solution won’t satisfy the needs of all the business users.

Special requirements at the design and implementation stages

Due to the real-time nature of operational BI, a BI implementation team should draw special attention to data cleaning and validation rules, as they need to find a trade-off between data quality and the speed of data processing. Besides, they should come up with the architecture and configuration that would enable the solution’s fast performance.

The state of operational BI

We perused data analytics and business intelligence trends and found the following:

  • G2’s Learning Hub predicts the rise of real-time analytics.
  • 2,600+ respondents of BARC’s survey stated BI with real-time data among 20 most important BI trends.

Despite neither of the trends mention operational BI explicitly, they both relate to it as real-time insights are one of the main advantages of operational BI.

These predictions are perfectly in line with what we see in our BI consulting and implementation practice. Our latest engagements show that operational BI is already on the radars of enterprises with 1,000 – 10,000 employees, which often need to promptly analyze big data in addition to traditional data. Thus, traditional and operational BI naturally go hand in hand, as, besides instant insights and alerts, companies need some thorough analytics based on historical data, for example, to diagnose root causes of identified problems.

To sum it up

Businesses find operational BI very important, mainly due to its ability to deliver real-time insights. At the same time, we see the convergence of traditional and operational BI, as well as the growing importance of collecting and processing big data.
