Apple’s Smart Home Command Center: What We Know So Far

Apple is working on a new Home accessory that is designed to serve as a central hub or “Command Center” for smart home management. The Apple TV and the HomePod are already home hubs and almost all Apple devices can control a HomeKit setup, but Apple is designing an all-in-one home management product to make control even easier.

Apple AI Command Center Concept Mock 5
This guide aggregates everything that we know about Apple’s smart home hub.

Design

Apple’s upcoming smart home product will somewhat resemble an iPad, and it will have an all-display design. It is expected to be square rather than rectangular, and it will measure in at six inches with thick bezels around the edges.

In terms of size, it will look similar to two iPhones that are side-by-side, and it will be small and lightweight to allow it to be moved from room to room. The device will support touch input for opening apps and controlling connected devices.

It will be able to be mounted on a wall, but Apple is also designing a dock that it can slot into that will let it sit on a table or desk. The desktop base could include additional speakers for playing music.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has suggested that the smart home device will have a hemispherical base similar to the iMac G4, with the small screen positioned at an angle on the base.

the new imac g4 featurethe new imac g4 featureThe original ‌iMac‌ G4

Built-in speakers will be included, and it will have a camera on the front for FaceTime and video calls, along with a rechargeable battery. Apple is planning two colors, including silver and black.

Sensors

The smart home hub will be able to determine how close a person is standing to it, adjusting features from there. When no one is nearby, for example, it might show the temperature, but as someone approaches, it could shift to an interface for adjusting the thermostat.

Person detection will likely allow it to be used in smart home automations for doing things like turning on the lights when someone enters a room. The sensor might be able to tell one person from another, and it could recognize hand gestures for longer range control.

Apple is also considering extra sensors that would plug into outlets throughout the home to interface with the hub, but it is not clear if these will be manufactured.

Chip

Apple’s upcoming smart home accessory is expected to use an A18 chip for Apple Intelligence support. Given that ‌Apple Intelligence‌ requires 8GB RAM minimum, it will have at least 8GB RAM.

Interface

Apple does not plan to create a dedicated App Store for the home hub, but it will come with several apps pre-installed. The main view will be a customizable home screen with widgets that can show the weather, important home controls, photo slideshows, upcoming events, and more.

Bloomberg‘s ‌Mark Gurman‌ has described the interface as a mix between watchOS and the iPhone‘s StandBy mode. A software-based dock will be available for launching various apps, and it will support Siri.

Apple is planning to integrate ‌Siri‌ with ‌Apple Intelligence‌ for accessing and performing tasks in apps. By the time the device launches, the smarter version of ‌Siri‌ will be available, and will be able to control apps and tasks.

There will be a focus on controlling smart home products and also security, with Apple providing alerts and camera footage from connected smart home cameras.

Apps

Several Apple apps will be installed even though there won’t be a dedicated ‌App Store‌. Apps that are rumored:

Intercom

More than one of the devices can be used throughout the home, and two or more can serve as room-to-room intercoms.

AirPlay

With its built-in speakers, the device will support music playback and it will be able to work as an AirPlay receiver.

Future Smart Home Accessories

Apple is reportedly considering creating its own line of smart home accessories like an indoor security camera, but the company wants to see how the hub device does first. If that’s successful, Apple could prioritize smart home products.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks Apple is already working on a smart home camera that will be manufactured starting in 2026. Kuo says that Apple will sell “tens of millions” of these devices over the long term, with wireless connectivity and deep integration with ‌Siri‌ and ‌Apple Intelligence‌ planned.

Apple could have an edge with security cameras because of its focus on privacy. Privacy would be a focus, providing an alternative to cameras from companies like Ring and Nest.

Pricing

It’s not clear what Apple will price the device at, but Amazon’s similarly sized Echo Show costs $90. By keeping the display size small at six inches, Apple may be able to keep the price low and competitive with similar products.

Competition

An Apple-designed smart home management product with an integrated display would compete with other smart home devices from companies like Facebook, Amazon, and Google. Facebook, for example, makes the Meta Portal, a device that can control Alexa-based products and that allows for video calls with friends and family.

echo showecho show
Amazon makes the Echo Show, a smart display with a speaker that comes in sizes up to 21 inches. It can be used for controlling smart home products, watching video, making calls, and more. Google offers the Nest Hub Max for streaming content, listening to music, and controlling products that integrate with the Google smart home system.

With almost all of Apple’s major competitors offering an in-home device that is designed to serve as a hub for controlling smart home products and making calls, it’s not hard to imagine a similar device from Apple.

Launch Date

Apple’s upcoming iPad-like smart home accessory could be released as soon as early 2025.

Luxury Beauty Packaging and Cosmetic Packaging Design Trends for Companies and Firms

The cosmetics industry relies a lot on packaging. As the primary point of contact between the end-user and the product, luxury beauty and cosmetic packaging doesn’t only serve as protection for the product inside. At the same time, it also serves as a powerful and effective tool for marketing and branding. Suitable and well-thought-out packaging can dramatically affect the perception of consumers, buying decisions, and overall experience with the brand.

Aside from this, as consumers become more and more conscious about the effects of cosmetic and beauty packaging waste on the environment, beauty and cosmetic companies are dealing with the pressure of being more responsible and eco-conscious. This is the reason why packaging is now one of the most important facets of the sustainability strategies of the beauty and cosmetics industry. This article discusses the different luxury beauty packaging options and cosmetic packaging design services and trends for companies and firms.

Importance of luxury beauty packaging and cosmetic packaging

Now more than ever, it’s clear to see that packaging is no longer a mere wrapper. Instead, it has become a powerful way to express the identity and values of your brand. But did you know that you also shouldn’t underestimate its economic impact, either? It has been revealed that the global market value of beauty and cosmetic packaging is expected to grow bigger in the coming years.

Considering that choosing the right packaging is a critical aspect in the development or rebranding of a beauty or cosmetic line, it’s important to thoroughly evaluate and maybe even embrace the following trends in luxury beauty and cosmetic packaging when hiring a packaging concept design expert to gain an edge over your competitors.

Design and art trend

The fusion of design and art in beauty and cosmetic packaging is one of the most anticipated trends in which beauty products and cosmetics are rising above their functional roles, turning into aesthetic pieces rightfully on their own.  The use of distinct design concepts, fine art, and abstract elements paves the way for creating packaging that feels and looks more like a piece of art or a collectible item. This approach improves the product’s perceived value and at the same time, makes a solid visual statement that can elevate the image of a brand.

For example, artistic and bold packaging with ornate details and vibrant colors can exude a more luxurious and dramatic experience that is in perfect alignment with innovative product lines. Artistic approaches can transform the experiences of consumers and make the simple practice of using the product feel like a unique moment of self-expression and luxury.

Color and boldness trend

The trend toward color and boldness in the luxury beauty and cosmetics industry offers a dynamic counterpoint to the modern minimalist movement. The packaging design firm uses bold colors in beauty and cosmetics packaging design to catch the eye, evoke certain emotions, and create an unforgettable image for the brand. Color psychology plays a critical role in shaping the perception of consumers and can dramatically affect buying decisions.

Red, for example, can signify intensity or passion. Blue, on the other hand, can convey reliability and trust. Many brands are usually noted for their daring use of lively packaging colors that set them apart from the crowded marketplace. These brands understand that vivid and bold packaging not only makes them stand out from competitors but also resonates better with consumers who want to express their individuality through their products. This is why the strategic and clever use of colors is now a cornerstone in influential and effective cosmetics and beauty packaging design.

Convenience trend

In this modern fast-paced life, it has become more crucial than ever for beauty and cosmetic packaging to be convenient. A cleverly designed packaging is not only an extension of the appearance of the product but also the secret to a better consumer experience. Resealable designs, travel-friendly sizes, single-dose packaging, and easy-to-open containers make the product simpler to use. This also caters to the pursuit of efficiency among modern consumers. This is why brands and product designers should pay close attention to developing more convenient packaging.

Customization trend

Brands today are increasingly recognizing customized packaging and its imminent power. Companies can set their beauty and cosmetics products apart from their competitors if they incorporate unique branding and design elements, starting from their aesthetic choices in terms of packaging. Customized beauty and cosmetics packaging gives companies the chance to establish a deeper connection with their target market and set themselves apart from the rest. Customized packages can give products a more exclusive touch, whether in terms of exclusive patterns, colors, or logos.

The sustainable and eco-friendly trend

The rise of eco-friendly beauty and cosmetics packaging underscores the important role of sustainability in the present-day cosmetics and beauty industry. With environmental concerns now influencing the choices of consumers, brands have shifted to greener solutions for their packaging design. The focus is mainly on reduced environmental impact from the implementation of refillable systems to the use of recycled and biodegradable materials

RELATED: Cosmetic packaging design & package design services costs and pricing

This trend is a reflection not only of a marketing strategy but even a serious commitment towards planet conservation. Brands have now started to recognize that sustainable packaging is no longer a mere option as it is also an important component of their responsibility and identity. The combination of aesthetics with sustainability not only caters to eco-conscious consumers has it also sets new standards for the entire beauty and cosmetics industry.

Technology and innovation trend

The intertwining of technology and innovation is driving a brand new wave of shift in beauty and cosmetics packaging. Technology pushes the boundaries of what is possible with the rise of connected packaging trends or smart packaging. For example, the technology of airless packaging has changed the cosmetics and beauty industry through the prevention of product degradation, waste reduction, and preservation of formulas’ integrity.

In addition, augmented reality, NFC technology, and QR codes are also being incorporated into packaging designs to provide additional information about the products, create immersive experiences, and improve user interaction. A few distinct brands have become pioneers in the use of technology with innovations that offer consumers valuable information. These advancements also show how technology not only shapes the future of beauty and cosmetics packaging it also allows brands to add more utility and value to their products that go beyond aesthetics to enhance the overall experience of users.

Metallic trend

The Y2K aesthetic is now making a big comeback. Fashion forecasts anticipate the rise of earlier staples once again. As far as packaging is concerned, consumers can look forward to seeing shelves filled with sparking metallic finishes. This aesthetics is even more popular among Gen Zs who have growing buying power year after year.

Simplicity and minimalism trend

Simplicity and minimalism are also shaping the industry of cosmetics and beauty packaging as the growing trend leads toward pared-back and clean designs. The true meaning of minimalistic packaging is all about straightforward aesthetics that convey honesty and transparency that is appealing to most modern consumers. The focus of this simplistic approach is the essential elements such as form, typography, and colors that result in striking yet uncomplicated designs.

packaging design professionals

One skincare brand, for example, stands out in its minimalist packaging with minimal text and simple dropper bottles with a focus on the ingredients instead of ostentatious marketing claims. There is also a brand renowned for its iconic minimalist pouches in pink and product packages that resonate with its unique philosophy. These brands show and prove that minimalistic design not only complements the overall identity of the brand it also solidifies the trust among consumers by showing their products in their purest form.

Inclusivity and target audience trend

Promoting inclusivity and understanding the target audience are emerging as critical aspects of cosmetics and beauty packaging designs. Acknowledging that different demographics like Gen Zs and millennials have specific values and preferences can help brands tailor their designs accordingly. For example, most of the younger consumers right now are attracted to brands that support sustainability, resulting in the popularity of environmentally conscious packaging.

At the same time, there is also a rise in gender-neutral packaging, with brands seeking to dismantle conventional stereotypes and meet the needs of a more diverse target market. Companies leverage non-gendered and simple design elements that appeal to every consumer regardless of gender. This change towards inclusivity as well as understanding the preferences and needs of the target audience has a significant impact on the packaging design. This will not only strengthen the market position of the brand but also reflect a bigger societal shift towards equality and acceptance.

LinkedIn is killing the standalone live audio feature you probably forgot about

Remember in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic when live audio was suddenly everywhere? The trend was made popular by the briefly Clubhouse before seemingly every other online platform copied the feature for themselves.

Since then, live audio has become mostly a footnote to a weird time when we were all stuck at home at the same time with nothing to do and listening to hours-long streams of strangers talking to each other passed as entertainment. Now LinkedIn, which was somewhat late to the live audio party , has opted to get rid of its standalone live audio events.

In , the company says it will no longer support native audio events beginning next month. Users will stop being able to create new events as of December 2, and previously scheduled events will no longer work after December 31. Instead, the company is “bringing together” audio events with its live-streaming feature, LinkedIn Live. LinkedIn Live, however, requires creators third-party tools to set up streams. So while audio-only streams will still be able to exist on LinkedIn, they will take a few extra steps.

LinkedIn isn’t the only company to change course on live audio. , , and have all shuttered their pandemic-era live audio products.Even Clubhouse (which, yes, still exists) from the format last year. The feature is, however going strong on X despite a few technical .

visual studio – How to manipulate position navigation in VSIX project

I am working on a VSIX project to produce plugins for vs2019, I have created a menu command that can jump to the appropriate code position based on the cursor position text. I Use DTE.Find.Execute interface to implement my requirements, this function can run normally,
but I found that after executing this command, there was a problem with the View.Navigate Backward function (The built-in function of vs2019). It could not jump back to the code position before the command call, and there were many irrelevant code positions between the new and old positions.

I want to know how to solve this problem ?

Here is the main code:

bool GoToRegexJump(string originalText)

    string config = UtilsClass.GetRegexJumpConfig(Package);
    JArray array = JArray.Parse(config);

Google’s ‘At a Glance’ widget could help you follow sports scores on your Pixel

What you need to know

  • Pixel phones feature an At a Glance widget that smartly shows the information you need, when you need it.
  • Google appears to be working on a new At a Glance mode that will show live sports scores on your home screen.
  • This functionality could give Pixels a competing feature to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island, which can already be used to show live sports scores.

The At a Glance widget is a staple of Google Pixel home screens, even if it’s now removable. That’s because it’s a fairly unobtrusive, but useful widget. It smartly switches what information is displayed on your screen based on your habits, the time of day, and the status of your smart home devices. However, the At a Glance home screen widget could be gaining the ability to show sports scores, according to an APK teardown from 9to5Google.

The folks over at 9to5Google unpacked version 13 of Android System Intelligence, the app that handles a ton of your phone’s smart features, including At a Glance. In it, the team found a handful of code strings indicating that the widget could one day “show sports updates” on Pixel home and lock screens. Here’s the full section of code relating to sports cores in At a Glance:

<string name=”echo_smartspace_pref_sports_key”>gemini_space_sports_score</string>
<string name=”echo_smartspace_sports_toggle_subtitle”>Show sports updates from %1$s. These might affect battery life.</string>
<string name=”echo_smartspace_sports_toggle_title”>Sports</string>
<string name=”echo_smartspace_sports_toggle_subtitle_provider_name”>Google</string>

Amazon pours another $4B into Anthropic, OpenAI’s biggest rival

Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI executives Dario and Daniela Amodei in 2021, will continue using Google’s cloud services along with Amazon’s infrastructure. The UK Competition and Markets Authority reviewed Amazon’s partnership with Anthropic earlier this year and ultimately determined it did not have jurisdiction to investigate further, clearing the way for the partnership to continue.

Shaking the money tree

Amazon’s renewed investment in Anthropic also comes during a time of intense competition between cloud providers Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. Each company has made strategic partnerships with AI model developers—Microsoft with OpenAI (to the tune of $13 billion), Google with Anthropic (committing $2 billion over time), for example. These investments also encourage the use of each company’s data centers as demand for AI grows.

The size of these investments reflects the current state of AI development. OpenAI raised an additional $6.6 billion in October, potentially valuing the company at $157 billion. Anthropic has been eyeballing a $40 billion valuation during a recent investment round.

Training and running AI models is very expensive. While Google and Meta have their own profitable mainline businesses that can subsidize AI development, dedicated AI firms like OpenAI and Anthropic need constant infusions of cash to stay afloat—in other words, this won’t be the last time we hear of billion-dollar-scale AI investments from Big Tech.

AI For Workplace Productivity: The ‘10,20,70’ Model

If I ask you in everyday tasks how much percentage you are dependent on AI based tools, what would you answer? No this is not an assessment of your capabilities of using modern age tools—Nor this is a test where you will find the dependency on artificial intelligence.

This is simply an article helping you to understand the strategic partnership between AI and Human. A partnership that explores AI for workplace productivity. Which will allow businesses to evolve and serve the modern market in a better way.

AI Plus Human a Strategic Partnership

A ‘strategic partnership’ here refers to businesses understanding all the possibilities to onboard AI into their team. Think of it as a collaborative team player.

It is quite obvious that every individual is trying to make use of AI in various ways, however the problem is the simple text you see at the bottom of every tool or AI based product you are using; “AI can make mistakes”.

  • Even a Forbes survey indicated that 76% of consumers are concerned about the mistake AI makes while providing information. However on the other hand the AI market is projected to reach $407 billion by 2027.

So one might say people are ready to use AI despite the concerns? No, its people and particularly businesses are eager to explore and leverage AI, discover its true potential.

What does this mean for their workforce? Well let’s look at it from a statistical perspective;

  • The rise of AI startups was vastly explored in late 2018 and 90% of these AI startups were already targeting the enterprise market rather than consumers.
  • Complementing this resolute effort businesses were interested. As stated 97% of businesses were affirmative that Open AI’s ChaptGPT will enable their business.

The question is ‘Why?’ businesses are passionate about integrating AI into their operations. Well primarily there are three reasons that were discovered which authorized this strategic partnership.

  1. Playing Intelligently: By automating your everyday operations, processes, and tasks you can gain an intelligent advantage over your competitors. The dilemma lies in choosing the right AI.
  • For example: Digital agencies can make use of Gen AI in a myriad of ways. From brainstorming content ideas to planning ahead of schedule for their clientele, they will be ready to make a difference.
  1. Retrieving What is Yours: Intelligent collaborative workspaces are allowed to reclaim their time. Time which can be used for strategizing, building, and developing something that will prove valuable for them to survive in cut throat competition.
  • For example: Think of preparing a 360° sales pitch which you always wanted to but your current working model stole your valuable time. It allows you to target your goals in a distinctly innovative manner.
This is what digital agencies always wanted to adopt, being better so their business prospects look stable.
  1. Learning Progressively: Stabilizing your current working model does bring advantages on the other hand there are risks involved. A stale approach addresses risks first and It will surely help you to gain a profitable outcome but it limits your ability to experiment. I mean exploring stable aggression in business approach and working model.
  • For Example: Leveraging AI’s LLM, teams can engage in targeted skill building activities to foster continuous learning.

The reason is developing new skills for keeping up with the trends becomes more crucial to such organizations.

Hence an enhanced collaborative learning environment where AI is successfully integrated for the benefits of employees in a reasonable way.

Here the aim is nurturing a skilled workforce rather than replacing individuals for cost effectiveness and productivity.

What is the 10,20,70 Model for Organization?

Yes! It’s about algorithms and humans. No! The model is not a brand new AI chip which enhances your current LLM models. It’s about leveraging the present LLM models to become agile and efficient in a competitive market.

The model reflects the implementation of strategic partnership between AI and humans in a comprehensive manner.

The 10,20,70 model for business refers to businesses approaching to deploy AI plus Human into your present workforce. Deploying AI plus Human is about:

  • 10% is in the coding algorithms.
  • 20% is building tech around those algorithms.
  • 70% is integrating AI with Human expertise for better organizational workflow.

The essence is in the co-dependency. To eliminate risks, which later lead to major setbacks for the decision makers of digital agencies. At last achieving a stable aggression business model promptly.

Recently as the age of AI is slowly building its place into the market, organizations identified three major problems. These are the problems their teams face while encountering the current development phases pivoting towards AI.

  • Q1. Skills Gap: How to focus on AI adoption and integration for improving team performance and boosting their morale with an advanced tool?
  • Q2. Productivity Issue: How to improve decision making approach resulting in less routine tasks and increased project completion rate?
  • Q3. Communication Challenges: How to help their teams by reducing communication barriers and increasing satisfaction?

Implementing AI for Workplace Productivity

Now that industry experts have identified the problems and questions, it’s time to find answers. Well the answer is as we already know keeping up with the modern market. And as observed, the modern market is being propelled by artificial intelligence enabled software, tools, services, and Saas products.

A neat execution strategy to implement AI for your workplace includes three primary phases.

  1. Training Programs: Well structured learning initiatives that do not disrupt your operations. Instead it should help your employees level up.

Skills, knowledge and competencies play crucial roles in your team’s development. Once polished it right way addresses the bottlenecks your organization may face in terms of performance.

  1. Tool Integration: Another crucial foundational ability observed in modern businesses is how well they utilize data to create, collaborate, and communicate. For this they might use a tool, helping them seamlessly navigate through this foundational ability.

These tools help your team to form a close interconnected digital ecosystem, complex yet cohesive. It eliminates manual labor required for redundant tasks and silos within organizations which have become a greater cause of friction.

  1. Workflow Automation: Organization does involve a certain amount of repetitive tasks. And no region, product, or industry niche has nothing to with it. The birth of repetitive tasks took place as people started focusing on administrative and organizing efforts.

Here workflow automation comes into play as It was surveyed that 7 in 10 global office workers are dealing with burdened repetitive tasks. A cohesive effort that involves AI as a team player focuses on eliminating such repetitive tasks.

AI for workplace productivity

Why Do You Need AI for Workplace Productivity?

Let’s take an example of digital agencies to make you understand the benefits of using AI at a workplace.

  • Cost Reduction in Operations: Implementing an automated workflow environment can reduce the burden on your workforce which involves mundane and repetitive tasks.

These processes are highly crucial and the platforms I am talking about can help you save cost through improving productivity and cutting down manual labor.

It enables you to step into the pool of next benefits which agencies do understand but are afraid to approach due to the fast paced market.

  • Increase in Innovation Capabilities: Gathering valuable insights about a particular niche or exploring a niche which is slowly making its way to market. Getting early access to such innovative practices is always a trump card.
  • For Example: A data driven approach, strategies helping you to stay ahead of trends. Which is again talked about a lot of times but honestly do companies have any idea how to implement it?

I am not saying it’s impossible, but rather a complex matter for companies who are in a trial and error phase. By utilizing AI for workplace productivity you can creatively strategies impactful campaigns for your clientele conveniently.

This involves finalizing a data driven approach with the help of agency experts and implementing it through your operations.

  • Better Resources Allocation: People are already way past the debate of AI replacing humans. As the mist dissipates, people have understood how working together with AI is the right equation.
  • Benefits:
    • Intelligently assigning tasks, optimizing workflow, and tracking project progress with the help of creating custom bots and using prompt libraries.
  • Leading to efficient resource utilization and progressing in project timeline ahead of schedule.
  • Enhancing project management, collaborations, and ultimately increase in the rate of client satisfaction.

Time for Trust or Truth?

Slowly moving towards integrating AI for workplace productivity does not make us lazy. I believe it makes us better innovators, smart decision makers, and bold venturers.

From punch cards to computers, and now AI we have come a long way in terms of understanding and using data. Collectively the target remains the same we focus on adopting and advancing forward.

Yes precaution is necessary and also I am not undermining the ‘still unknown” gray area of AI.

However, learning is one of the most imperative elements as we begin the integration of AI in our organization through Gen AI tools, AI SaaS products, or other disruptive means.

The next ability is to focus on collaborative effort in terms of implementation. A strategic partnership between AI and Human following the 10,20,70 model. Well needless to say it is time to trust our ideas and unveil an ultimate truth.

CoD: Black Ops 6 Zombies Release Date Revealed For Citadelle Des Morts Map

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launched with two brand-new Zombies maps, but a third map is arriving with a midseason update. Treyarch has now revealed the upcoming Citadelle des Morts map releases in less than two weeks. Here is everything we know so far about the latest Zombies map.

The Season 1 roadmap confirmed that Citadelle des Morts would arrive sometime midseason, and now a recent post from Treyarch revealed the map arrives on December 5. Activision hasn’t confirmed a date for Call of Duty’s midseason “Reloaded” update, but it’s possible this map will arrive with the rest of Season 1’s content for Black Ops 6 and Warzone.

Citadelle des Morts is described as a new round-based map set at a massive castle located in Europe. The map’s narrative picks up after the events of the Terminus Easter-egg quest. Additionally, Treyarch has confirmed the main story quest for Citadelle des Morts will go live simultaneously with the map’s launch.

Zombies players can also expect new Perk-a-Cola, a new field upgrade, a new ammo mod, and more Augments to unlock for Season 1. However, the details of these specific items won’t be revealed until closer to the update.

Zombies recently added a Director mode for Liberty Falls and Terminus to help guide players through the storyline quests. This guided mode is expected to arrive sometime after the launch of Citadelle des Morts, giving players their first crack at uncovering the hidden Easter-egg steps for themselves.

Season 1 is set to add more content for both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, and the full roadmap and details can be found here.

At this year’s Microsoft Ignite, it was truly exciting to see Scott, Dalia, and Jessie demo some of the most innovative features of GitHub Copilot that are transforming the developer experience in Visual Studio. From the breakout session, we highlighted five standout features that are pushing productivity to the next level. Whether you’re working on complex edits or crafting custom workflows, these tools showcase how AI can elevate your coding game in ways you never thought possible.

*Note: It will take 24-48 hours after the session for the recording to be uploaded.

1. Copilot Edits: Collaborative Iterations

It was amazing to see Copilot Edits in action. This new editing surface is designed for seamless multi-file changes, making large-scale updates across your project feel effortless. Imagine needing to redesign your UI or implement logic that spans multiple files—Copilot handles it by generating a change plan tailored to your goals, without the usual headache of tracking dependencies manually.

What makes this feature transformative is how Copilot analyzes your codebase, identifies the necessary edits through multiple files, and iterates on those changes while maintaining the context from your conversation history. And the best part? Visual Studio’s inline code previews let you review, modify, or accept suggestions directly in the IDE, making complex updates feel more like a smooth collaboration than a solo effort. This iterative approach ensures that Copilot evolves alongside your intentions, keeping you in control while streamlining your updates.

2. Vision: Code Smarter with Contextual Understanding

This feature blew us away with its ability to process images and screenshots, allowing GitHub Copilot to instantly grasp your intentions, without the hassle of going back and forth, tediously describing UI changes.

For instance, when updating a UI, you can simply paste screenshots of the current and desired states into Copilot. It analyzes the differences, determines the necessary changes, and suggests edits tailored to your goals. Vision bridges the gap between visual inputs and actionable suggestions, empowering developers to handle visually-oriented tasks with ease. It truly makes Copilot feel like a collaborative partner in your workflow.

3. Icebreakers: A Launchpad for Productivity

Icebreakers, 4 clickable prompts in the Copilot Chat window

We all know that getting started can sometimes feel like the hardest part, but Icebreakers make it so much easier. These curated starter prompts, like “Refactor my code” or “Add a new feature,” inspire action and guide your initial steps when facing common coding challenges. Seeing Scott demo how Icebreakers now support more complex, multi-step workflows was incredible. They seamlessly integrate with Copilot Edits, enabling actionable plans for even the most intricate tasks.

Whether you’re navigating an unfamiliar codebase or tackling a large project, Icebreakers reduce cognitive load, giving you a clear starting point and boosting productivity right from the get-go. It was exciting to see how this feature now helps developers take control of complex tasks and move forward with confidence.

4. Function Calling: Bridging Gaps in Logic

Function Calling, which enhances GitHub Copilot’s ability to provide precise recommendations by automatically determining the relevant context and tools based on your natural language prompts. Copilot seamlessly integrates the necessary context, saving you time and effort.

Function Calling streamlines the process by dynamically accessing open files and project structure, eliminating the need to manually specify paths. This makes debugging and integration faster and more efficient. Watching them demo this feature was a highlight, as they showed how quickly developers can go from idea to implementation with Copilot’s context-aware functionality!

5. Custom Instructions: Your Copilot, Your Way
