Each week on Polygon, we round up the most notable new releases to streaming and VOD, highlighting the biggest and best new movies for you to watch at home.
This week, Captain America: Brave New World, the Marvel superhero movie starring Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, smashes its way onto Disney Plus after hitting video on demand in April. It’s a big week for animation, with the Oscar-nominated The Wild Robot and the Korean science fiction romance Lost in Starlight both releasing on Netflix, while DreamWorks’ adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s internationally bestselling Dog Man graphic novel series arrives on Peacock. New titles available to rent include the Chinese legal thriller The Prosecutor, and two tales of forbidden love: the Shakespearean musical Juliet & Romeo and The Grey director Joe Carnahan’s action flick Shadow Force.

Set in 2050 Seoul, Netflix’s first Korean original animated film is a story of literally star-crossed lovers. An astronaut headed for Mars and a musician fall for each other and face the pain of separation. Trying to make a long-distance relationship work is especially difficult when you’re 139 million miles away from each other.
Genre: Crime drama Director: Carlos Sedes Cast: Carmen Machi, Ivana Baquero, Tristán Ulloa
Based on a true story, this Spanish film stars Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth) as Maje, the young widow of a man stabbed seven times and left in a parking lot in a seeming crime of passion. The investigation leads to Maje’s lovers, as the police try to figure out who’s really behind the crime.

Based on Peter Brown’s middle-grade book, DreamWorks’ Academy Award-nominated film follows Roz (Lupita Nyong’o), a helpful robot who accidentally washes up on an island that’s only inhabited by animals. While she initially terrifies all the creatures there, she winds up befriending a fox (Pedro Pascal) who helps her raise a runty gosling (Kit Connor) and prepare him for his first migration.
From director Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch, How to Train Your Dragon), The Wild Robot is a tenderly crafted story that pushes computer animation in a beautiful new direction — and is exactly the sort of movie that the current animation landscape so desperately needs.
Captain America: Brave New World

Set after the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Captain America: Brave New World sees Sam Wilson — having fully embraced his role as the new Captain America — being called on to resolve an international incident in the wake of a failed assassination attempt on newly elected President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (Harrison Ford). With time running out and the walls closing in, will Sam be able to come out on top and rescue the world from the brink of devastation? Probably!
As a Captain America movie, Brave New World is batting strongly below average. Its plot is at least mildly reminiscent of 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but it’s both fair and unfair to compare the two. Unfair in that Winter Soldier is still among the best-regarded MCU movies, while BNW is running uphill from table-setting a potential new Captain America franchise, dealing with post-production rewrites and reshoots, and the general malaise of the MCU’s post-Avengers: Endgame audience. But fair in that, like Winter Soldier, BNW was also clearly designed as a grounded thriller (by the sliding scale of “grounded” in the MCU) featuring global political stakes and a superpowered conspiracy at its heart.
The Seed of the Sacred Fig
Genre: Political drama Run time: 2h 48m Director: Mohammad Rasoulof Cast: Soheila Golestani, Missagh Zareh, Mahsa Rostami
Writer and director Mohammad Rasoulof had to flee Iran after he was sentenced to eight years in prison ahead of the premiere of The Seed of the Sacred Fig. The Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated film is a fictional story set against the backdrop of political protests, incorporating real footage of the 2022 and 2023 unrest that followed the death of 22-year-old Jina Mahsa Amini, who was fatally beaten by Iranian “morality police” under the accusation that she was wearing her hijab improperly.

Peter Hastings continues the Captain Underpants franchise with an adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s graphic novel series about a hero created when a police officer and his dog were stitched together into one individual after being wounded while failing to defuse a bomb. Pete Davidson plays Dog Man’s evil cat nemesis in the DreamWorks film, which uses CG animation styled to resemble craft materials.

No one is quite who they seem in Mel Gibson’s claustrophobic thriller, where a U.S. Marshal (Michelle Dockery) hires a pilot (Mark Wahlberg) to get an informant from Alaska to New York so he can testify against the crime family he worked for. As they travel across the wilderness, the group fights for control of the increasingly tense and violent flight.
AMC Networks re-released a digitally remastered version of Toyoo Ashida’s classic anime film to celebrate its 40th anniversary in theaters in April, and is now offering it across both its anime and horror streaming services. Set in a far future where vampires rule the world, the action-packed film follows a mysterious vampire hunter hired to protect a woman from a vampire lord who wants her to be his next bride.

Basically Bullet Train but in the air, Fight or Flight casts Black Hawk Down and Penny Dreadful star Josh Hartnett as a disgraced Secret Service agent given the chance to clear his name by catching an elusive hacker known as the Ghost, who’s boarded a flight from Bangkok to San Francisco. Unfortunately, the plane is packed with assassins looking to kill the Ghost and anyone who gets in their way.
Genre: Musical romance Run time: 2h 2m Director: Timothy Scott Bogart Cast: Jamie Ward, Clara Rugaard, Rupert Everett
West Side Story already did the decisive musical version of Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet, but this adaptation plays closer to the original text while adding a soundtrack full of original pop tunes to the tale of two feuding houses of Verona. Filmed on location in Italy, Juliet & Romeo’s high-profile supporting cast includes Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, The White Lotus) as Lord Montague and Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids, Pitch Perfect) as Lady Capulet.

Ip Man’s Donnie Yen directs and stars in this Chinese legal thriller loosely based on a real 2016 drug trafficking case. Yen plays detective Fok Chi-ho, who loses faith in policing and decides the better way to ensure criminals face justice is as a public prosecutor. The Prosecutor might be mostly courtroom drama, but there’s still plenty of action, combining old-school martial arts techniques with modern film technology.

Eight years ago, Kyrah Owens (Kerry Washington of Scandal and Little Fires Everywhere) and Isaac Sarr (Omar Sy of Lupin and Jurassic World) joined a multinational special forces group dubbed Shadow Force, but they’ve left that life behind to raise their son. Their old boss (played by Mark Strong of Shazam!and Sherlock Holmes) doesn’t accept their resignation, and is trying to hunt them down.
Playtonic, the creators of Yooka-Laylee, is laying off some of its staff, the developer and publisher announced on social media. The post doesn’t mention how many members of Playtonic will be effected, but does credit the layoffs to the company’s struggle with “a period of profound change in how games are created and funded.”
Based on a LinkedIn post shared by Playtonic brand manager Anni Valkama, the layoffs include staff members who worked in production, various art departments, game design, narrative design and UI/UX design. Playtonic only lists around 50 staff members on LinkedIn, but given the studios growth into a publisher and its upcoming release of Yooka-Replaylee,its possible the actual team is a bit larger.

While Playtonic likely isn’t safe from the problems of funding and selling games that other developers have, hiring up for a new project like Yooka-Replaylee and then laying those new hires off before the game is released is a fairly common practice. There’s no way to know if that’s the case here without more information, but it’s worth stating.
Yooka-Laylee was pitched as a spiritual sequel to Banjo-Kazooie and other character-focused action-platformers when it debuted on Kickstarter in 2015, perhaps unsurprising given that Playtonic was founded by former developers from Rare, the creators of Banjo-Kazooie and newer hits like Sea of Thieves. In fact, many of the games Playtonic has published under its “Playtonic Friends” publishing label fall in that Rare sweet spot, whether its the cute action-adventure game Lil Gator Game or the difficult platformer Demon Turf.

Yooka-Laylee developers Playtonic are laying off staff across their operations, as they wrestle with what they call “a period of profound change in how games are created and financed”. It’s not clear what these “profound changes” are, exactly – soaring budgets? Evergreen service games drinking up all the oxygen? Falling interest in the genre of mascot platformer Playtonic are best known for? Either way, the outcome is that a bunch of artists, game designers, narrative designers, producers and UI or UX people are now looking for work.
I have installed a new visual studio community 2022 on a new machine, and I chose to install the azure development packages. Now I opened an existing project which is a .net core 8 azure function (which i developed inside my original machine), inside the new machine, but i got errors on those 3 packages inside the new Visual studio that they cannot be loaded. Here is a screenshot for the packages inside my original machine:-
So i removed those packages and i tried to run this command inside NuGet command line inside the new Visual Studio:-

AMD is going to launch its own cut-down AI graphics card exclusively for the Chinese market. Based on the AMD Radeon AI Pro R9700, this card will compete directly with Nvidia’s RTX 5000-series GPUs and some of Huawei’s homegrown AI hardware.
The Chinese market has become increasingly important for GPU sales, and not just because of its huge gaming scene. The explosive growth of AI investment around the world has also seen Chinese firms buying up huge quantities of graphics cards. Though the Trump administration’s on-again, off-again tariffs make the industry far from stable, AMD is still looking to compete with a new China-specific card by Q3 2025.
AMD released the AI Pro R9700 just a week ago, offering a small but notable upgrade over the last-generation W7800. Based on the same GPU as the 9070 XT, the die size is almost a third smaller but has over 90% of the same number of transistors. It features the latest generation of AI and ray tracing accelerators, a much higher boost clock, and 32GB of GDDR6 memory.

While the raw performance of the card isn’t dramatically greater than its predecessor, it’s in AI workloads that the new card really shines. AMD claims it’s more than twice as fast as the W7800 running the DeepSeak R1 Distill Llama 8B model. It’s also five times faster than the RTX 5080, according to AMD’s own numbers—though as Tom’s Hardware suggests, that’s an odd comparison to make. AMD was probably doing a 32GB-versus-16GB comparison, but there are professional cards it could have compared with instead.
Total AI performance of the R9700 tops out at 1,531 TOPS. It also consumes up to 300W of power, which is more than the last generation, but not dramatically so.
The version of this card that makes it to China will likely be weaker overall, as Nvidia’s China-specific cards have needed to comply with US export laws. AMD has already done that with its MI308 GPU, though it also lost hundreds of millions because that card proved too powerful to sell to the Chinese market.
But all that does is further fuel demand for these kinds of chips in China, which means there’s still a lot of money to be made there. Instead of leaving it all to Huawei and Nvidia to enjoy, AMD is looking to get into the mix. Its cards won’t be as powerful as Nvidia’s options, but that may not matter much.
Disney+ and Hulu have announced a suite of benefits for subscribers, with the launch of “always-on” Perks programs. Disney+ subscribers immediately have access to things like discounts, free trials, and sweepstakes, while Hulu plans to roll out its own rotating offers in a few days. The goal? To reward loyal users — and to give both services an edge over the competition.
While streaming services have offered promotions and benefits in the past — like Amazon Prime and Prime Video subscribers gaining access to Prime Day deals — this is one of the first continuously updated, multi-brand loyalty programs for streaming subscribers.
It’ll be fascinating to see if other services feel pressured to match.

Any Disney+ subscriber — whether on a standalone plan or part of a Disney Bundle — can get access to Disney+ perks. Hulu Perks are available to Hulu subscribers and those on the Disney+ and Hulu bundle. Disney pointed subscribers to disneyplus.com/perks to learn more about what’s on offer and how to enter to win, and it said Hulu subscribers should check @hulu on social.
The Perks program is initially launching in the US, but Disney said it’ll expand via international rollouts later this year. Some of the perks include sweepstakes entries — Disney said these are open to all US residents aged 18 and over, with no purchase required.

When are the perks launching?
Disney+’s perks went live on May 29 in the US. Hulu’s will launch June 2, 2025.
Both Disney+ and Hulu describe these programs as “always-on,” with new offers and sweepstakes added regularly. Subscribers can expect new deals, events, and sweepstakes, and digital bonuses to be rolled out throughout the year.
Is this a safe space? Can I make a confession? I still haven’t finished Elden Ring. In fact, I’ve yet to make much further than Margit. For all the hours I sunk into The Lands Between, it never quite got its hooks into me. I’ll go back and give it another shot some day, but there’s a part of me that wonders if I might just be kind of done with Souls-style games for a while. Sekiro 2, though? I’d eat that up in a nanosecond.
But I don’t think most people are with me in that regard. I wonder if most people would much rather FromSoft stuck to making what it does best. That’d certainly explain the current Steam reviews for Elden Ring Nightreign, which came out yesterday and quickly became FromSoft’s worst-reviewed game on Steam. Now, don’t get too alarmed, we’re not talking the doldrums of an Overwhelmingly Negative score here or anything; Nightreign is currently Mixed, with 66% of its user reviews coming in positive.

Not terrible by any stretch, but lower than any other game in the FromSoft catalogue. Only one thing under its name—Dark Souls 3’s Ashes of Ariandel DLC—scores lower: 59% positive. As full games go, Nightreign is bottom of the table.
It’s not surprising. I’ve not touched Nightreign myself, but it’s been controversial here on the PCG team. Some of us are dead keen, others are iffy, and even those in the former camp took a little while to come around. Our reviewer, Tyler Colp, was positive in his Elden Ring Nightreign review, but admitted its experimental, multiplayer-focused gameplay made it a stranger, messier thing than its predecessors.
It’s no shock to see that same division play out on Steam. “This is not the Elden Ring game you are looking for,” reads one. “Immediately got crushed by Fell Omen in under a minute. 10/10 Elden Ring experience,” says another. I’ll be curious to see if opinion turns more positive as people get some time to adjust to the game, or if From stalwarts just won’t take to its co-op trappings like they have to the studio’s previous work. Perhaps it’s fated to be bottom of the leaderboards forever. Well, unless and until Duskbloods gets a PC release.
