10 tips from a World of Warcraft art lead for getting started creating amazing houses in WoW

Blizzard principal artist and lead designer Jay Huang used to make his living creating the “props” that make up World of Warcraft’s living spaces. Now he designs the systems that allow players to do the same thing with WoW’s new player housing feature.

The game’s recent patch 12.1, The Curse of Ula’tek, added a huge pile of new housing decor and features for players to create with. For example, it added the ability to use “blueprints,” saved rooms or house interiors or exteriors, to allow novices to copy the work of player designers to use in their own spaces.

One year with the Google Pixel 10 Pro: Why do bad things happen to good phones?

Perhaps the best part of owning a Pixel is that the phone is better a year in than on the day it launched. Google has very successfully made a name for itself in the industry with Pixel Drops, a set of quarterly updates delivered to Pixel phones alongside monthly security updates and annual operating system updates.

After a year with the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL, I can confidently say this phone is better now than it was last August, but that comes with some caveats along the way. Considering the rising prices of electronics these days, it very likely makes more sense to buy a Pixel 10 this year than a Pixel 11.

CMF’s next earbuds are coming, and I have a pretty good guess what they are

Nothing’s budget-focused spinoff brand CMF has started teasing its next pair of wireless earbuds, and while the company is keeping the name to itself for now, there is a good chance we are looking at the successor to the CMF Buds Pro 2.

The teaser posted on CMF’s official X account shows a single in-ear earbud from the bottom. It has a metallic silver finish, a stem with what appear to be two microphone openings, and a silicone eartip finished in CMF’s signature orange. CMF simply calls it “a hint of what’s next,” without revealing a launch date or any specifications.

Why I think these could be the CMF Buds Pro 3

CMF could simply be preparing the regular Buds 3, but its previous release schedule makes the Pro model a strong possibility. The original CMF Buds Pro arrived in September 2023, several months before the regular CMF Buds launched in March 2024. CMF repeated the pattern with the next generation. Buds Pro 2 launched in July 2024, while the Buds 2 family followed in April 2025.

If CMF follows the same naming scheme, the teased earbuds would most likely be called CMF Buds Pro 3, rather than Buds 3 or any other 3 series model. There is still no confirmation, though. Other reports have suggested the teaser could simply point to the third-generation CMF Buds, so the exact model remains up in the air.

There is plenty CMF could improve

As a former CMF Buds Pro 2 user, I already have a pretty clear wishlist for whatever CMF is preparing next. The earbuds offered a lot for the money, including dual drivers, LDAC support, strong ANC, long battery life, and the Smart Dial built into the charging case.

The Smart Dial was easily one of my favorite features. Being able to adjust the volume or control playback without reaching for my phone was genuinely useful, but accidental presses did get annoying. I would also like to see CMF tone down the heavy bass and give users more control over the EQ. None of those are deal-breakers at the price point CMF usually targets, but they are areas where a new Pro model could make some meaningful improvements.

Phantom Blade Zero finally shows off its interconnected game world, with exploration ‘guided by 8 authentic hand-painted Chinese ink wash maps’

In a PlayStation State of Play video today, Phantom Blade Zero developer S-Game has finally shown off glimpses of a game world it’s largely kept secret up to this point, with eight individual maps that “seamlessly connect into a single world.”

In my demos of the game over the last year and a half, S-Game has stressed that the areas I got to play and the bosses I fought were all optional diversions from the main story—impressive, considering their scope. This State of Play has finally pulled back the curtain on some of the game’s primary characters and locations and shown in more concrete terms what distinguishes Phantom Blade Zero from linear action games and open world ones.

Diablo creator says “the worst ending of any game I’ve ever played” is hidden in a beloved ’90s D&D RPG

Diablo creator David Brevik is honest with himself. He truly loves the 1991 Dungeons and Dragons-lite, Dungeon Master cousin Eye of the Beholder, but he seems certain the landmark PC game has the worst ending. Ever.

Brevik recounts his time playing the game to PC Gamer in a new interview, saying, “I had mapped out all the levels on graph paper. I was really into it. And then at the end, I killed the final boss, and a little dialogue box pops up and says ‘Congratulations, you win!’ or whatever. Then quits to desktop.

Apple Seeds Sixth iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 Betas to Developers

Apple today seeded the sixth betas of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 to developers for testing purposes, with the update coming one week after Apple released the fifth betas.

iOS 27 Feature Dark
Registered developers can download the betas from the Settings app on the iPhone or iPad by going to the General section and selecting Software Update.

‌iOS 27‌ introduces Apple’s smarter version of Siri, ‌Siri‌ AI. ‌Siri‌ AI is a chatbot similar to ChatGPT, incorporating general world knowledge, personal data from apps like Messages and Mail, and onscreen awareness to answer questions and find information for you.

There are new Apple Intelligence features in apps like Photos, Safari, Shortcuts, Wallet, and Passwords, plus Apple added a standalone ‌Siri‌ app that houses ‌Siri‌ conversations. Write with ‌Siri‌ is available systemwide for generating text or offering feedback on your writing, and Visual Intelligence has been relocated to the Camera app with a new ‌Siri‌ mode.

Apple improved the look of Liquid Glass and added a slider for customizing transparency. There are multiple performance improvements to speed up iOS, so everything feels faster, even on older iPhones. Apps launch quicker, AirDrop transfers are faster, the keyboard pops up more quickly, and devices are better at transitioning between Wi-Fi and Cellular to keep you connected.

For more on what’s new in ‌iOS 27‌, we have a dedicated iOS 27 roundup.

Here’s Why Retro Games Look Better On Old CRT TVs

Now we have enough of a base to understand why retro games look the way they do on modern TVs. One major issue is that recent LCD and OLED TVs don’t offer great analog connections. If you’re lucky, your TV might have composite ports. But even if that’s the case, composite cables introduce a lot of noise to the signal from your console.

Recycling this comparison I did last year for Toriyama’s passing in celebration of Chrono Trigger’s anniversary!

Another roadblock is that modern screens aren’t designed to display interlaced content. They use software to convert 480i content to 480p. That process, known as “deinterlacing,” introduces input lag, which makes games feel less responsive. What’s more, many moderns TVs will detect 240p content as 480i, which they will then once again try to deinterlace. In that case, the process produces visual artifacts like motion blur. This all happens before your TV attempts to upscale a 480p image to 1080p or 4K. Unless you own a dedicated scaler like the RetroTink 4K, blowing a 240p image up to 4K will not look good.

Final Fantasy Tactics (1997, Squaresoft) – PS1

Sharp Pixels vs. PS1 Composite via Sony KV-27S43

FFT is actually THE game responsible for this blog. When I got an HDTV in 2012, I hooked up my PS2, but when I saw FFT’s dithering for the first time I thought my console was broken!

CRT Pixels (@crtpixels.bsky.social) 2025-06-04T15:08:48.777Z

Then you have the fact that retro games’ art was designed for display on CRTs. Over decades, video game artists developed and perfected techniques to make pixel art (and later 2D textures) look more lifelike. Dithering was one of those techniques. This involved artists adding visual noise to sprites and textures, often in the form of a checkboard pattern, to create smooth color gradients. Dithering is transformative on CRTs due to how the technique interacts with a phosphorescent screen; on an LCD or OLED, it completely loses its effect. In fact, for the recent rerelease of Final Fantasy Tactics, Square Enix removed dithering from the game’s Classic presentation mode for that exact reason.

Separately, there are games like Silent Hill 2 and Doom 3 that look washed-out unless you play them on a CRT or OLED. Until the recent advent of local dimming, LCD panels could not produce deep blacks due to the tech’s reliance on backlighting. This limitation of LCDs changed the look of games for more than a decade.

Unlocking mortgage opportunities amid rising consumer debt

Is your lending strategy missing buyers who are almost
ready to qualify?

With U.S. household debt reaching a record $18.8 trillion, it’s easy to assume fewer borrowers qualify for a mortgage. Yet pending home sales are up 3.2% year over year. Which means rising consumer debt doesn’t equal fewer lending opportunities.

Many borrowers who appear unqualified are only a few strategic steps away from mortgage approval. Explore how lenders can use deeper borrower insights, data-driven decisioning, and modern mortgage technology to identify these “almost-there” borrowers and drive sustainable loan growth.

In this eBook, you’ll learn:

  • How to identify borrowers who are close to qualifying and guide them toward approval
  • Why traditional lending models overlook valuable lending opportunities
  • How modern mortgage technology and AI improve decision-making, borrower experiences, and approvals
