Let’s make this clear, first. Many product designs are harder and more expensive to mass-produce than others.

When the design is complex enough, the manufacturing facility may need to create new tooling just to produce a single part, significantly increasing costs. Design for Manufacture (DFM) services aims to minimize production costs while maintaining high quality. The easier a product is to manufacture, the cheaper it is to mass-produce. Product photography does work, only not as good as CGI for marketing purposes.
