visual studio – Access denied to .NET Standard 2.0 – Azure Function App

Everything on my laptop syncs to OneDrive, and I experience the following error message when trying to build my function app in Visual Studio.

The “GenerateFunctionMetadata” task failed unexpectedly. System.IOException: Access to the path “D:\Users\User\OneDrive\Desktop\Functions\FunctionName\obj\Debug\net8.0\WorkerExtensions\buildout\bin\runtimes\win\lib\netstandard2.0” is denied.

It seems to happen in the file Microsoft.Azure.Functions.Worker.Sdk.targets. It looks like it is trying to remove it. I have tried running Visual Studio as administrator, clean and rebuild the solution, deleting the debug-folder, yet without any luck.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Hyundai is giving away free Tesla NACs adapters to its EV customers

Hyundai said Monday it will send customers who have bought or leased an EV before January 31 a free charging adapter that will let them access Tesla’s supercharging network.

The Hyundai-authorized adapter will give CCS-port-equipped Hyundai EV drivers access to more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers in the United States, according to Hyundai. Free adapters will be available to eligible owners of the model-year 2024 and earlier Kona Electric, Ioniq hatchback, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq 6 vehicles. Hyundai said that model-year 2025 Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5 N, and Kona Electric vehicles are also eligible.

Customers have to request the free NACs adapter through the online MyHyundai owner portal.

Support for Tesla’s charging connector and charge port — called the North American Charging Standard — has accelerated since Ford and GM announced plans in 2023 to integrate the technology into the next generation of EVs and sell adapters for current EV owners to gain access. Up until then, every EV, with the exception of Tesla, used Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors.

Virtually every other automaker followed, making their own partnerships with Tesla to offer customers a NACs adapter. Some, including Lucid, have made plans to integrate the charging port into future EVs.

The rollout hasn’t been as smooth as some hoped, with many non-Tesla customers still waiting for the adapters. However, some automakers have started to ship the adapters in recent months.

It’s win-and-in for Green Bay tonight. If the 10-4 Packers can beat the 5-9 Saints tonight at home at Lambeau Field, then they’ll punch their ticket to the NFC Playoffs. The Packers can’t overlook the Saints, who must leave the climate-controlled confines of the Superdome for a December road trip to Green Bay while starting backup rookie QB Spencer Rattler, as they eye next Sunday’s huge road test against the 13-2 Vikings.

The Saints and Packers kick off tonight at 8:15 p.m. ET (5:15 p.m. PT) on ABC and ESPN. Looking for the ManningCast? The Manning brothers have the night off; Peyton and Eli won’t return until next month for a Wild Card game.

If you don’t have a cable or satellite TV subscription, you can watch Monday Night Football tonight with a live TV streaming service.

How to watch MNF without cable

You can watch the game tonight with a live TV streaming service. The good news for football fans is that ABC and ESPN are available on all five major streaming services.

The other option is to use an over-the-air antenna connected to your TV to watch on ABC. The best part about antennas is that there are no streaming or monthly fees required, although you will need to make sure you have good reception.

GTA 6 fans are convinced that a new trailer is going to release on December 27, because the moon and a license plate told them so

The latest mind-boggling theory spreading through the GTA 6 subreddit involves the moon, the identification order for Bonnie and Clyde, and a license plate. Apparently, everything points toward the number 27, which fans think means we’ll finally get a trailer for GTA 6 on December 27.

This theory started on a GTA 6 leaks Twitter account after it broke down a post made by a Rockstar Dev. To an untrained eye, the pictures were just of a Rockstar Games jumper, a paper bag, and a cat. But if you look closer, you can see how the cat hair on the jumper was shaped into a VI, and the phone number on a piece of paper next to the jumper is for a shop called 27 Auto Sales. After this, the account went on the lookout for everything 27 related, and to be fair, there’s quite a lot.

Security updates to Azure publishing from Visual Studio

Visual Studio 2022 introduces a new feature to improve the security of publishing applications to Azure App Service. This feature is designed to disable Basic Authentication and enable integrated security for a more secure publishing process.

Disabling basic Auth

Basic Authentication has been identified as a less secure method for managing app deployments. Visual Studio 2022 addresses this issue by offering you an option to disable Basic Authentication, which enhances security by using integrated authentication.

The problem with Basic Authentication

Basic Authentication involves sending user credentials in a format that is not highly secure, making it vulnerable to interception. This poses a risk to the integrity of applications.

Secure publishing with integrated authentication

The new feature in Visual Studio 2022 disables Basic Authentication and enables integrated security for publishing to Azure App Service. This ensures that publishing credentials is handled securely, reducing the risks associated with Basic Authentication.

When publishing to an Azure App Service that has Basic Authentication enabled (which is not recommended), users will see the Turn on Basic Authentication option, and it will be unchecked by default. Customers who need to retain Basic Authentication can check the box, but given the recommendation is to disable Basic Authentication it’s unchecked by default, so you start secure if this is the first time you’re publishing or, you get secure once you go through the publishing process after you update Visual Studio.

publishing a new app service (basic auth available)

If you’ve created the Web App recently via the portal or this or any future version of Visual Studio, Basic Authentication will be disabled by default. For any Web App that’s already got Basic Authentication disabled, we circumvent inadvertently making the Web App less secure by disabling the checkbox altogether, so you stay secure.

publishing a new app service (basic auth not available)

This feature improves the overall security of the publishing process, ensuring that sensitive credentials are not exposed. It also simplifies the process by defaulting to a more secure option, reducing the need for manual security configurations. If, at any point, you need to re-enable Basic Authentication, this is always possible in the Azure Portal.

Conclusion

We deeply appreciate your invaluable feedback, which plays a crucial role in enhancing Visual Studio. Thank you for being a vital part of our community.

In Infinity Nikki, photo mode achieves its ultimate form

Infinity Nikki is my favorite new release of 2024. It’s a cotton candy confection of an open-world game that offers a lot more depth and variety than I expected to find. I enjoy the fabulous wardrobe, the low-key puzzles and the charming side quests. But the most surprising thing about Infinity Nikki was something that I’ve been ignoring in games for years: the photo mode.

I didn’t expect this to become a highlight of the Infinity Nikki experience. In fact, when it came up in the long sequence of tutorials during my first session, my initial reaction was, “Oh good, something I can forget about.”

Photo mode has become a standard feature in single-player AAA games over the past decade. For those unfamiliar, this feature pauses the gameplay to let you pose your protagonist like an action figure, making them mug with a silly expression or hold up a peace sign. You can slap on a filter or make minute adjustments to the focus, aperture and other details to capture a striking image.

Over the years, I’ve seen people capture Nathan Drake, Ellie and Joel, Aloy and many others striking heroic or hilarious poses. I appreciate those images when they cross my social feeds. And as game graphics become ever more photo-realistic, it makes sense that studios want to give players tools to capture beautiful moments when they happen. But every time I’ve played a game with a photo mode, I’ve found that after I take the one picture required by the tutorial, I never open the camera again.

Screenshot using photo mode in Infinity NikkiScreenshot using photo mode in Infinity Nikki

Anna Washenko / Infold Games

My issue isn’t that these games aren’t gorgeous enough to warrant documenting. It’s that when I’m in the middle of playing something like The Last of Us, it doesn’t occur to me to stop for a snap because I’m so focused on the other gameplay mechanics and goals. Sure, there might be some calmer moments to breathe, but running for your life in a post-apocalyptic wasteland just isn’t a time for casually browsing filters. And in other games, taking pics simply doesn’t feel like an activity the character would do. Come on, there’s no way Kratos would ever take a selfie.

Like all its predecessors, Infinity Nikki is a beautiful game. Miraland comprises picturesque towns and charming landscapes, equally lovely in their sweeping vistas and hidden nooks. Everywhere you look are tons of carefully constructed little interactions that serve no purpose other than encouraging you to stage a cute image. You press a button to take a hot air balloon ride or to blow bubbles at a cafe table. It’s a step up from most implementations, where the most you might be able to do is sit on a chair or bench.

Screenshot using photo mode in Infinity NikkiScreenshot using photo mode in Infinity Nikki

Anna Washenko / Infold Games

What fully hooked me on becoming a shutterbug, though, is a system where players are prompted to take pictures of notable locations around Miraland. The first time I found one, it was a lush green grotto where I directed Nikki to sit on a log by an underground lake. It was a pretty spot, sure, but what most delighted me was that my outfit matched the setting perfectly. So I didn’t just grab a photo and move on to a more important task. Taking the time to look great is the most important task.

There’s no single style point of view in Infinity Nikki. A few special ensembles offer contextual in-game abilities, but most pieces are there just so you can look exactly how you want. Nikki can be an absurd anime character from fantasy land in tulle and sparkles. Or she can look exactly like someone you might see streaming the game on Twitch or TikTok in an oversized hoodie. Or she can pair a top hat with jean shorts and thigh-high knit boots if you want. (And yes, I did want.)

This game knows you’re there at least partly to play dress-up. It also knows that the obvious thing to do when you play dress-up is to immortalize your best fits with a photo shoot. That’s why Infinity Nikki‘s photo mode feels not just enjoyable, but essential. It’s a core part of the game loop. When I assemble a new outfit, I want to find a good setting to snap a pic. When I stumble on a striking location, I think about which poses will best showcase it.

Most of the time, cameras and photo modes do little to enhance my love of a game. They’re the metaphorical cherry on top of the sundae. With Infinity Nikki, though, the photo mode is the ice cream. And it is delicious.

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe will fly closer to the sun than ever on Christmas Eve

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe is still zipping around the sun making history, and it’s gearing up for another record-setting approach this week. On December 24 at 6:53AM ET, the spacecraft’s orbit will take it just 3.8 million miles from the solar surface, according to the space agency. That’ll be the closest it — or any other probe — has ever come to the sun. The milestone will mark the completion of the Parker Solar Probe’s 22nd orbit around our star, and the first of the three final closest flybys planned for its mission. The craft, which launched in 2018, is expected to complete a total of 24 orbits.

“No human-made object has ever passed this close to a star, so Parker will truly be returning data from uncharted territory,” Nick Pinkine, Parker Solar Probe mission operations manager at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, said in a statement on NASA’s blog. “We’re excited to hear back from the spacecraft when it swings back around the Sun.”

The Parker Solar Probe will be traveling at about 430,000 miles per hour at the time of its closest-ever pass. It’ll ping the team to confirm its health on December 27, when it’ll be far enough from the sun to resume communications.

com – Visual Studio runtime dependencies – unable to find

I installed VS 2015 on a Windows server. Created a C++ project which contains an .exe & .dll (com). The .dll is registered using regsvr32.

When I run the binary & .dll on another server where VS2015 is not installed, CoCreateInstance for the .dll fails & shows the following error:

.NET Runtime version 4.0.30319.34209 – Loading profiler failed during CoCreateInstance. Profiler CLSID: ”. HRESULT: 0x8007007f. Process ID (decimal): 2344. Message ID: [0x2504].

I installed runtime dependencies like VS 2013 / VS 2015 redistributed packages, .NET 4.5.1 & 4.6, but the issue is not resolved.

While debugging, I found msvcr120_clr0400.dll was absent. After installing the .NET framework, the .dll is copied, but the issue isn’t resolved.

Can someone suggest which runtime package is missing?
